Vice President Report: September 2016 to May 2017
My role in the BCPTA is prepare and arrange the meetings and assist on the day of
our workshops.
We have 7 Board meetings from September to June. Before each meeting I email a
request for agenda items and board members of the date. I prepare the agenda and
send it out to the members one week before the meeting. On the day of the meeting I
set up the space, pick up snacks and prepare them.
At the workshops you will see me at the sign in table at the beginning and the end of
the day and doing anything else that needs to be done. Also, I’ve organized and
delivered the welcoming announcements at workshops when Johanna is not
available.
I make recommendations to the education committee for presenters and fill in any
gaps of information like facility rentals, email communication, hotel information for
conference participants, school district pro-d information, online banking etc.

presented on three different topics in the area of Synergetic Play Therapy
that included Play Therapy with Pre-Teens and Teens, Partnering with

Perspective. Her presentation took place on January 20 th and 21st in
Vancouver.
On February 25 th BCPTA welcomed Joani Mortenson who presented on

Professionals Who Work With Children. This workshop not only allowed
attendees to learn clinical yoga skills but also practice those skills
firsthand.
On April 7 th BCPTA organized another play café with Natascha Lawrence
on the topic of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder In The Playroom . Due to an
accident Natascha couldn’t present that day, as such Johanna Simmons

On May 12 th , 13 th and 14 th BCPTA along with CAST hosted second joint
conference at the UBC Robson Square here in Vancouver. Conference was
titled Making Connections in Play and Therapy. The keynote speakers for the
conference were Dr. Brenda Weinberg from Toronto, Ontario and Dr. John Allan

conference covered variety of topics in the area of play therapy and sandplay
therapy. The conference presenters came from across Canada and the US.
Presently, the committee is in the process of planning the educational events for the
upcoming year. In the fall we will have Mary Anne Paré presenting for two days in
Vancouver and Lisa Dion will be back to present one day workshop on Synergetic
Play Therapy in Kelowna.
I also want to genuinely thank all my colleagues on the committee for all their time
and great work they do for the members.

The 2016/17 BCPTA membership had another successful year! We have a total of
220 members to close off of the year (as of April 19, 2017). We continue to
encourage our members to spread the word about our amazing organization and get

There have been some changes to our website this year and we hope that this has
made it easier to renew membership online. As usual, membership will run June1,
2016-May31, 2017. Please renew your membership in June so that you get to have
the full benefit of receiving information about upcoming events and other perks.
Please remember to renew your membership and encourage others to do the same.
We again have great offers for our members and a great student price. We look
forward to increasing our membership numbers this year and will continue to offer
educational and networking opportunities in our community. We do encourage
members to renew online but we do still offer manual renewal.
For more information on the upcoming education opportunities or to renew your
