Community Services Direct Line: 01865 252537 E-mail: [email protected] Town Hall St. Aldate's Oxford OX1 1BX Central Number: 01865 249811 October 2015 Dear city centre resident, business and colleges, Christmas Light Festival, Friday 20 to Sunday 22 November Important information on road closures and diversions for Christmas Light Festival. Oxford’s Christmas Light Festival is a long-‐standing public event, free for the community to attend. The primary focus of the 2015 event will be on the evening of Friday 20 November and will comprise of a lantern parade involving approximately 240 children. The parade will take approximately 40 minutes, starting in Queen Street and ending in Broad Street, where a light-‐based art piece will end the parade. On the Saturday and Sunday Broad Street will host a Christmas Market with around 50 stalls, this will take place between Turl Street and Magdalen Street East. A small number of Cultural Venues will host art installations and/or performances. Multiple cultural venues will also be holding events across the City over the course of the Friday night. To enable us to put on this event safely, a small number of road closures will be in place over that weekend which you will need to be aware of. This letter contains information regarding the road closures, parking suspensions and diversions, which will be in place in and around Broad Street and the City Centre to enable the event to take place. Please do note the road closure map on the back of this letter, which reflects the different road closures coming into effect at various times throughout the weekend. We have been working with Oxfordshire County Council and the emergency services developing plans to minimise the impact of this event on residents as much as possible. There will be a control room based near Broad Street that will be open throughout the event weekend with direct access to the event management team. Should you have any concerns about noise levels, public safety or access requirements, then please do contact us on 01865 200 780. Please treat this number as you would the City Council’s out of hours service (always call 999 in an emergency). Should you have specific questions in advance of the event then please contact the City Council’s Contact Centre on 01865 249 811 or email [email protected]. For more information about the festival please visit www.oxfordschristmas.com If you live or work within the closure areas we will be happy to facilitate deliveries before 6pm on Friday 20th as normal on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd November.
