Explanation of NACFC Disciplines




Academic PhD, MD/PhD, MD (Basic Scientist) or Corporate PhD, MD/PhD, MD (Basic
Scientist) ‐ if a registrant is a physician or researcher who is primarily a basic scientist. A
registrant must choose Corporate PhD, MD/PhD, MD (Basic Scientist) if he/she is
employed by a for‐profit company. Ph.D. candidates (except allied health professionals)
and post doctoral fellows should choose this discipline and see paragraph below under
Students/Fellows for further instructions.
Academic MD, MD/PhD (Clinician) or Corporate MD, MD/PhD (Clinician) ‐ if a
registrant is a physician or physician assistant who is primarily a clinician or clinical
researcher. A registrant must choose Corporate MD, MD/PhD (Clinician) if he/she is
employed by a for‐profit company. Medical students and clinical fellows should choose
this discipline and see paragraph below under Students/Fellows for further instructions.
Allied Health Professionals ‐ should choose their proper discipline from the list below,
including those with advanced degrees (e.g., individuals with a Ph.D. but whose
occupation is a nutritionist), should choose Nutritionist/Dietitian, not the "Academic or
Corporate PhD, MD/PhD, MD (Basic Scientist)" category. Please note: Full‐time
students in any of these disciplines, see paragraph below under Students/Fellows for
further instructions.

or if his/her primary job is in public health or education.
Non‐exhibiting Company Representative ‐ individuals, regardless of other discipline or
degrees, whose primary job falls within a broad definition of sales and/or marketing
and/or market research/analysis, and who are employed by for‐profit companies which
are NOT listed as the NACFC exhibitors and/or supporters (see Preliminary Program on
the NACFC website), should choose this as their discipline.
Other ‐ only if none of the choices apply to a registrant.
Spouse/Family/Friends – Parents or caregivers of people with CF. This does not include
healthcare professionals in the CF field. This is also not for people with CF (see the
Infection Prevention and Control Policy).
Sales/Marketing ‐ individuals who are attending on behalf of a company that is listed as
an exhibitor and/or supporter for the NACFC (see Preliminary Program on the NACFC
website) and whose primary job falls within a broad definition of sales and/or marketing
and/or market research/analysis.
Students/Fellows ‐ Only full‐time students (in any discipline), physicians in their 1st, 2nd,
3rd , or 4th year clinical fellowships or scientists in their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year post‐doctoral
traineeships are entitled to select "Yes" for a reduced registration fee. If you qualify,
you should first choose the appropriate discipline above and then select student.
