Chicano Movement
Like African-Americans, HispanicAmericans faced racial discrimination.
The Chicano Movement began in the 40s
to create a Hispanic-American identity,
instill a political consciousness, and end
racial discrimination.
The movement was centered around the
south and west of the US, Puerto Rican
neighborhoods along the East Coast.
Cesar Chavez

(UFW)
Leader of the Agricultural Movement
Gave exceptional public speeches,
organized marches, organized strikes,
fasted.
Was one of the biggest reasons why
farm workers got their rights.
United Farm Workers
Was the organization founded by Cesar Chavez and Dolores
Huerta
Helped farm workers obtain rights through nonviolent tactics
Fought for better working conditions, better wages, and
benefits for farm workers
They formed marches, organized strikes and boycotts
In 1975, California passed a law requiring collective
bargaining between growers and union representatives.
Today, the amount of farm workers who are unionized has
dramatically lowered because there is always someone else
who will do a job for an unfair wage due to desperation of
income

Environmental Movement

American Indian Movement
Chippewa activists, Dennis Banks
and George Mitchell founded the AIM
in 1968.
AIM focused on helping Native
Americans living in urban ghettos.
After time AIM aided the Native
Americans to secure they’re legal
rights, land, and self-government.

Movement

Went to Harvard Law School, Princeton and
Harvard University.
American political activist, author, lecturer
Called the nations nag, denounces soft drinks,
warned people about red dyes in hot dogs
Driving force behind the passage of more than two
dozen consumer protection laws, including
National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act( auto
safety standards), Occupational Safety and Health
Act( on the job safety), Consumer Products Safety
Act( allows citizens to request and see
government records)
