NUMBER OF HALF MARATHON RUNNERS In 2015, the Hero Half Marathon had 316 runners
from over 14 states enjoy the scenic Fayetteville trails. That means the Hero Half Marathon almost doubled
in one year from the inaugural race in 2014.
FIREFIGHTER CHALLENGE PARTICIPANTS Number of currently serving firefighters that rose
to the challenge to run the full 13.1 miles in their bunker gear- quite a sight to see!
THE SPARK FOUNDATION A Fayetteville based 501©3 non-profit organization whose mission is to
promote health and education, and bridge the gap between the two. The foundation partners with
community organizations and schools to provide fitness opportunities for youth, including running clubs,
camps, and family- friendly events. They host the Cow Paddy Run 5K and 1K, a fundraiser for the

FAYETTEVILLE PUBLIC EDUCATION FOUNDATION A 501©3 non-profit organization
whose mission is to raise private funs for resources, programs, and opportunities that are not available to
our students through the district’s normal operating budget. Its vision is to underwrite excellence in the
Fayetteville Public Schools by providing students, K-12, with nationally competitive educational experiences

CAMP SUNSHINE A free 4-day camp for children who survived burn injuries. It was founded by the
Burn Center at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. The goal of the camp is to promote physical and emotional
healing as well as growth and development of burned children. www.archildrens.org
MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY ASSOCIATION ARKANSAS A nonprofit health agency dedicated to
curing muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related diseases by funding worldwide research. The Association also
provides comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy, and education. The Association
provides services for over 800 people living in Arkansas who suffer from neuromuscular dystrophy diseases.

ARKANSAS SPECIAL OLYMPICS Its mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic
competition in a variety of Olympic type sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities giving
them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and
participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and
the community. The organization offers training, equipment, and competition to athletes free of charge. The

FAYETTEVILLE’S MOVIES IN THE PARK Parks and Recreation offers free Movies in the Park
at the Wilson Pool (Dive-in Movies). They begin at dark and are open to the public. It’s the most unique

FAYETTEVILLE FIREFIGHTERS SCHOLARSHIP FUND This fund helps children of
Fayetteville Firefighters who are members of the IAFF- Local 2866 further their education.
