CKC Good Food Announces 2015-16 Kids Create Contest Winners
Contest supports nutrition-in the-classroom efforts and formation of healthy lifestyle
South Saint Paul, Minn., May 2, 2016 – CKC Good Food® is pleased to announce the winners of
the third annual Kids Create Contest, a contest supporting nutrition and health education in the
classroom by providing age-appropriate activities that give students the opportunity to learn
more about healthy lifestyles. The first place winners received 10 free movie passes and a
framed certificate marking their accomplishments. Second place winners received 2 free movie
tickets and a framed certificate. Third place winners received 1 free movie ticket and a framed
certificate. The first-place winning entries are also featured on the CKC Good Food blog.
“It’s so important for students to learn how to live a healthy lifestyle through classroom lessons
that are reinforced in the school cafeteria,” said Nancy Close, founder and CEO of CKC Good
Food. “Through this contest and the USDA-certified, chef-prepared food we serve at the
schools, CKC Good Food is able to help connect the classroom and the cafeteria. These winning
entries demonstrate students’ understanding of what comprises a healthy lifestyle, which will
help them make healthful choices in the future.”
The contest had three categories and activities specific to each:
• K-grade 2 category: Color a provided illustration of fruits and vegetables
• Grade 3-5 category: Draw a picture of favorite fruits and vegetables in their growing
environment
• Grade 6-8 category: Write a short essay on favorite foods and why it’s important to eat
healthy foods
The first-place winners are:
• K-grade 2 category: Atheena Yang, 1st Grade, New Millennium Academy, Minneapolis
• Grade 3-5 category: Pemola Wachungtsang, 4th Grade, Trinity First Lutheran School,
Minneapolis
• Grade 6-8 category: Briana Johnson, 8th Grade, Trinity First Lutheran School
In her winning essay, Johnson wrote, “The impact that detrimental conduct, such as bad eating
habits, has had on children throughout the United States has caused for approximately 17% of
adolescents between the ages two to nineteen to become obese. Consequently, they also take
on major risks of health issues that, unfortunately, could limit the mobility of young Americans.
It's absolutely crucial to provide your body with the nutrients it needs to function properly.”
