WHAT I SHOULD HAVE DONE…
Help Students Express Their Knowledge
Through Representational Development
Work



Using the arts as a symbolic language through which to express their
understandings in their project work
Consistent with Dr. Howard Gardner's notion of schooling for multiple
intelligences, the Reggio approach calls for the integration of the
graphic arts as tools for cognitive, linguistic, and social development.
Presentation of concepts and hypotheses in multiple forms such as
print, art, construction, drama, music, puppetry, and shadow play.
These are viewed as essential to children's understanding of
experience.

What do you think will happen in the story?
The volcano
will blow up,
and all the
hot lava will
go into the
ocean and
kill all of the
fishies.
Co-Learner and Collaborator
"As partner to the child, the teacher is inside the learning situation" (Hewett, 2001).
Document Children's Progress


Documentatio on children's work in progress is an
important tool on the learning process for children,
teachers, and parents. Pictures of children engaged in
experiences, their words used to discuss their actions,
feelings, way of thinking, and the children's
interpretation of learning experiences are displayed to
allow students to view their learning.
Documentation can be used as assessment and should
be displayed throughout the classroom.
