Outlook - MyWeb at Loras

One thing that I learned about outlook today is that I can send meeting requests to my friends,
and they can either accept or decline the time proposed for a meeting. If they accept the
invitation, then the event and time will show up on our calendars, if they decline then a different
time will have to be worked out. I also learned how to organize my calendrer. I learned how to
organize my class schedule for both J-term and spring semester. In addition I have learned how
to schedule in holidays and special no schools days into my calendrer as well. When searching
for a lost email, I learned that when you click the search bar, you can alter the areas outlook will
search for the email. For example if I know the folder the email is in I can search the current
folder. If I have 50 folders and have absolutely no idea what folder the email could be in, I can
tell outlook to search all my folders by clicking “all outlook items” in the search settings box.
When dealing with the email part of outlook, it is important to set up folders to keep yourself
organized. I learned that sorting emails using the categories, “reference”, “personal”, and
“contact groups”. In addition to folders categorizing emails makes life easier. To create a
category, you right click of an email and select all categories and then click create “new
category” to create a new category. Creating a category for each class will be most efficient
because it will allow me to organize all my related mail and tasks based on my classes. Another
important tool that I learned how to utilize was to organize my email by task. To do this when I
receive and email from a teacher about homework, all I have to do is right click on the email, and
select “follow up” and choose a time that I will work on the task. In addition to add a task that
isn’t an email, all I have to do is type the task in the task bar and hit enter and I can manually
change the day of when I will work on by right clicking on the task. Also a neat feature I
discovered is the post-it note feature. To utilize this feature hit Ctrl+Shift+N and type in the post-
it note. When you’re done click the little paper in the upper left hand corner and hit save. You
can also categorize notes by clicking the paper in the top left hand corner and clicking on
“categorize”. Lastly I learned that I can encrypt my email so that only the people I send the email
to are allowed to view its contents. To do this click File, Options, and open the trust center and
click on email security and check the boxes of the things you would like encrypted. However
you will need a digital I.D., to get one just go to the Trust Center and click “get a digital I.D.
Notes:
1) I did not get a group meeting scheduled yet. My group members haven’t responded.
2) All my scheduling is done, including my class schedule, final exams, and breaks.
