Computers, Recycle at the transfer Printers station for a small charge. Cooking Oil & Fat Compost Food Scraps Please keep fat and oil out of the drains. Prevent blockages - cool fat or oil, then drain into newspaper or bags and dispose into rubbish bags. Tallowman: 06-835-3200 Watch out for the free annual Composting workshop (details under Events). Organise a worm farm or ask around to see if anyone needs scraps to feed their animals. Last resort - put them out in your rubbish or take to the transfer station. Furniture & other second-hand goods Garden Waste Take to Second-Hand Stores or give away in Second-Hand Sunday (under Events). If it’s too far gone - take it to the transfer station. Dispose at the transfer station separately as used for compost (small charge applies) or set up your own composting at home. Gas cylinders Glass bottles & jars Glass windows, drinking glasses, light bulbs, windscreens Glasses (Spectacles) Drop off at the transfer station for FREE Recycle. Clean and take to a recycling dropoff centre for free. No lids. These types of glass cannot be recycled in CHB. Carefully wrap in newspaper and place in rubbish bags for collections or take to the transfer station. Drop off unwanted glasses in good condition at any optometrist. They are sent around the world for reuse in developing countries. Hazardous Waste is any material that is toxic or corrosive, or would ignite or react. This must not be put out for collection or thrown away into the landfill. This includes agrichemicals, cleansers, garden sprays, asbestos, pool chemicals and petrol. BUT if you put household rubbish in litter bins, you may be FINED $100! Try Schools; Kindies; Kohangas, have a garage sale or give away in SecondHand Sunday (refer to Events). Freephone the Waste Exchange on 0800 NO THROW Return your mobile to any phone retailer or to CHB District Council for Starship. Disposable nappies cannot be recycled. Wrap and dispose in normal rubbish bags. For more types of nappies visit www.thenappynetwork.org.nz Oil (motor oil) Paint Used oil is collected at the Waipukurau Transfer Station free of charge and stored in a storage tank. Drop off at the Waipukurau Transfer Station. Where possible, usable paint will be put to one side for use by the Community and the remainder transported to the Enviropaints plant in Otaki to be recycled back into paint. Introductory Offer - to recycle your paint $1 per can/pail of paint 4 litres and below $2 per can/pail of paint above 4 litres Paper & Cardboard Recycle! Take to a recycling drop-off centre for FREE! e.g. flyers, glossy magazines, flattened boxes. If you live in Waipawa or Waipukurau, put it out with the kerbside recycling collection. Plastics Grades 1-6 plastics are recyclable. Grades 1-6 and 7 Grade 7 plastics are not recyclable and will need to be disposed off as waste. Scrap e.g. Washing Machines, Pipe, Wire, Bike frames, Ovens, Fridges & Freezers (de-gassed), Brass, Radiators, Aluminium pots/ cans/ pans, Steel motors, gearboxes or chassis, Corrugated iron, Motorbike & Car frames, bodies and batteries. Televisions & small If it is in working order, offer them to friends, students, or the needy. If broken, could be appliances eg used for parts - see electronic service radios, stereos, centres. TV’s can be recycled at the blenders etc transfer stations for a small charge. Tyres Drop off at the transfer station - separate charge applies i.e. additional to other refuse charges. If it is in working order - donate to charitable Whiteware organisations. If it is not working - contact a local scrap dealer (refer to scrap).
