SUBJECT: Pennsylvania Alternate System of Assessment (PASA) Update – Alternate
Eligible Content
The purpose of this Penn*Link is to update you on the status of Alternate Eligible Content
for students with significant cognitive disabilities. The Bureau of Special Education (BSE) in
collaboration with stakeholder groups including parents, special education and regular
education teachers, higher education staff, administrators, Pennsylvania State System of
Assessment (PSSA) committee members, and outside content experts developed, reviewed,
and finalized alternate eligible content (Grades 3-8 and 11) utilizing the PSSA anchors and
eligible content as the framework as required by the United States Department of
Education.
The Alternate Eligible Content process and information was reviewed by the Pennsylvania
State Board of Education as part of the federal requirement on November 18,
2015. Subsequently, the State Board approved the adoption of Alternate Eligible Content on
November 19, 2015.

SUBJECT: Teacher and Principal Evaluation Survey Deadline Extended
PDE has requested and been granted an extension to the federal aggregate data reporting
which allows us to revise the LEA submission date. In order to allow additional time to
complete the tasks related to the data collection, we are extending the deadline for
reporting your aggregate results. The new due date for submitting the Teacher and
Principal Evaluation Survey is now February 12, 2016.

As we approach the end of the 2015 calendar year, PDE is increasing its capacity to respond
to technical questions surrounding background checks for school employees and volunteers
resulting from recent changes to the Child Protective Service Law, including Act 153 of 2014
and Act 15 of 2015. Please review the guidance below to assist you in meeting these
requirements.

To verify if an applicant has fingerprint results on file, please log onto your district’s
Cogent account and enter the PAE registration number to view individual results. Please
print a copy for your records.

When inputting a PAE registration number, if no results are found, please contact
PDE. When contacting PDE, please have the following:
o Applicant’s name
o Applicant’s birthday
o Last four digit of the applicant’s Social Security number
o Date/location where fingerprinting took place

If an applicant is awaiting results from name check verification, an applicant can expect
to receive the results by mail from PDE. PDE response time is approximately one week
following notification from Cogent.

SUBJECT: Schools Chemical Cleanout Campaign (SC3) Chemical Management Training
Dear Colleagues,
As a part of our Region 1 PAIU Statewide System of Support work, under the Safe Schools
Initiative, The Bucks County Intermediate Unit #22 has scheduled a regional training
for: Schools Chemical Cleanout Campaign (SC3) Chemical Management Training.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection will be conducting this training.
The trainings is FREE.
It will also consist of a follow-up site visit to the schools during the summer, to assess any
potential chemical concerns.
The training date is January 20, 2015.
It will be held at the Bucks County Intermediate Unit #22, 705 N. Shady Retreat Road,
Doylestown, PA 18901.
