ADELAIDE BECOMES ENVIRONMENTAL HUB
Adelaidewillbecomethenation’senvironmentalhubnextmonthwhenSouthAustraliahoststheinaugural
WorldEnvironmentFaironJune3and4.
TheAdelaideShowgroundwillhostAustralia’slargestenvironmentfair,withkeynotespeakerProfessorRoss
Garnaut,AOheadliningtheevent.
Morethan15,000peopleareexpectedtoattendovertheweekend,whichisbeingcelebratedintheleadup
toWorldEnvironmentDay(Monday,June5).
TheFairhasattractedmorethan30speakersandpresentersandmorethan50exhibitorsfromacross
Australia-eachhighlightinghowpositivechangecanmakeadifference.
SpeakersacrosstheweekendincludeProfessorRossGarnautAO,ProfessorialResearchFellowinEconomicsat
theUniversityofMelbourne;award-winningAustralianenvironmentalcampaigner,authorandbroadcaster
TanyaHaandAdelaide’sDrDeaneHutton,oneofAustralia’sbestknownscienceeducatorsandrecognisable
fromhistimeonTheCuriosityShow,HeyHeyIt’sSaturday,ChannelSevenNewsandTheNewInventors.
TheweekendwillincludethecreationofoneofAustralia’slargestindoornatureplayareas,showcasedisplays
ofwaterandenergysavingideas,talksanddebatesonissuesconcerningtheenvironment,abushcafe,reptile
andnativeanimaldisplaysandactivitiesforthewholefamily.
SupportedbytheDepartmentofEnvironment,WaterandNaturalResources,theFairwillcelebratethe
naturalenvironment,raiseawarenessaboutconservationandencouragepeopleandcommunitiestothink
abouthowtheycancontributetochangingtheirhabitsforapositiveimpact.
EventDirectorBrianHaddysaidtheFairwouldhelpbringthecommunitytogethertopromotelifelongpositive
engagementwiththeenvironment.
“Whetheryouhaveaninterestinsustainableliving,home,garden,food,touring,conservation,biodiversity,or
simplytheenvironmentTheWorldEnvironmentFairofferssomethingforeveryone–music,foodandwine,
animalandwildlifedisplays,childrens’activities,guestspeakersandmarkets,”hesaid.
“Itisdesignedtobeinteractive,interestingandchallenging–wereallywantpeopletotakehomesome
practicalhintsthattheycanintroduceintotheirdaytodaylives,andwaystheycancontributetosafeguarding
ourenvironment.”
