Research shows that kids model their parents’ eating habits, their attitudes toward food and their feelings towards their bodies. Be a Healthy Role Model 5 2 1 0 Try new foods! Eat at least 5 fruits & vegetables each day A child’s willingness to try different kinds of fruits and veggies increases when they see you enjoying them, too! Cook together, eat together and make mealtime a family time. The time you spend together can give you chances to share your thoughts on food and show your kids how you are eating healthy, too! Watch your screen time! Limit your screen time to 2 hours a day or less Set limits to your own TV, computer and mobile screen viewing. Keep screens out of the bedroom and plan TV viewing in advance. Come up with a list of fun activities to do as a family in place of screen time. Keep TV time and meal time separate, and let mobile devices rest while you eat. Get moving! Get at least 1 hour of physical activity every day Show your kids that you care about your physical fitness and theirs! Gradually increase your level of physical activity as a family. Go for a walk after dinner. Try to incorporate physical activity into your daily routines. Walk your kids to school rather than driving. Find active places and events in your community to be active together. Drink up! Avoid all sugary drinks and have water instead Drink water instead of soda or other sugary drinks. Keeping a water bottle, or bottled water, on hand can help you! Try adding lemons or cucumbers to your water for some extra flavor!
