Pledge of Allegiance II. Roll Call and Introductions Chair Liz Harris-Tuck called roll and asked if everyone could introduce themselves. A quorum was met In attendance: Susan Aguilar, Lana Chanda, Bob Duke, Liz Harris-Tuck, and Richard Wilkie Via Teleconference: Joel Villegas Absent: Brad McCormick Guests/Staff: Joel Millman (ARIZONA@WORK Pinal County); Sean Harper (Arizona@Work Pinal County); Ricardo Chilaca (Central Arizona College); Sherrie Licón (Central Arizona College); Cara Bryant (Central Arizona College) III. Information/Discussion - WIOA requirements: Role of Board Members in Building a Career Pathways System Liz discussed the role of the Committee and the full Board in creating a Career Pathways System. Bob mentioned the three sectors that the Board of Supervisors concentrate on, Construction, Hospitality, and Medical. Liz asked if Sherrie could give an overview of the Career Pathways program that is currently in place right now at Central Arizona College. IV. Information/Discussion - What are essential elements of Pathways System that Pinal can reasonably accomplish? Discussion on promoting to the community and engaging the business sector in development of pathways. Discussion on ECAP in high schools and how to support the counselors handling student engagement. V. Information/Discussion - Select targeted sectors for the Pathways System. Pinal’s sector priorities are: Manufacturing - Identified as the most prominent sector in Pinal County. Transportation/Logistics Aerospace/Defense Natural and Renewable Resources (mining, solar, agriculture) Tourism Health Services - Identified as being one of the top two most prominent sectors in Pinal County. ACTION REQUIRED: Joel Millman to run reports in EMSI on each sector to see what occupations are in demand within Pinal County. VI. Information/Discussion - How will we involve employers in the program? Discussion on creating an Employer Engagement design team. Sherrie recommended there be a liaison who goes out to the schools to outreach to the youth and let them know there are different programs to start their Career Pathway. Further discussion on the sectors in Pinal County and what strategies can be developed based on the different Career Pathways in the community. VII. Information/Discussion - Planning for the Institutionalizing of the use of the National Career Readiness Certificate Tabled for next meeting on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at 2:00 PM. Motion made by Liz Harris-Tuck to create a task force to incorporate NCRC into ARIZONA@WORK process. Motion seconded by Susan Aguilar. Motion passed unanimously. Task Force includes: Susan Aguilar, Ricardo Chilaca, Liz Harris-Tuck, and Bob Duke Linda Friedel, and a representative of the Adult, and Dislocated Worker programs.
