Fermentation Glycolysis Review Respiration & Glycolysis • Aerobic Respiration – Glycolysis creates Pyruvate, NADH – Kreb’s (Citric Acid) Cycle continues • Anaerobic Respiration – Glycolysis creates Pyruvate, NADH – NAD molecules recycled back and forth – ATP continually produced by glycolysis Lactic Acid Fermentation • Glycolysis creates – two pyruvates (3C) – 4ATP (net gain of 2ATP) – NADH • L.A.F. Step 1: NADH breaks down pyruvates into lactic acid – Lactic acid causes muscle burn – Acids breaks down upon oxygen returning • L.A.F Step 2: NAD returns to glycolysis Alcoholic Fermentation • Glycolysis creates – two pyruvates (3C) – 4 ATP (net gain of 2 ATP) – NADH • A.F. Step 1: NADH breaks down pyruvates into ethanol and CO2 • A. F. Step 2: NAD returns to glycolysis Kobe Public Service Announcement: Proper Use of Alcohol Maple Center Counseling Program • The Safe Ride Program is a confidential service to Beverly Hills students.
