HONORS BIOLOGY CLASSROOM GUIDELINES Mrs. Klokkenga [email protected] Office: Rm 231 Conference periods:2nd & 7th CLASSROOM AND LAB EXPECTATIONS A. BE HERE. B. Come to class prepared. -Required=a 3-ring binder for yourself. Keep all notes, labs, tests/quizzes organized. -Required=pen or pencil and 1 package of loose leaf paper. -Recommended=an assignment notebook (Normal West planner). -We have a class set of textbooks and also will access or book online. C. Come to class on time. -A maximum of two tardies are allowed per semester. On the third, you will receive a detention. On the fourth, you will receive a referral. D. Be present during learning time. Cell phones off and out of sight unless otherwise directed by the teacher. Participate often and listen to your classmates questions/comments. E. Always follow the rules set forth in your safety contract and school handbook. FOLLOW THE 3 RULES “OF LIFE” 1. DO THE RIGHT THING Always respect others and be loving and kind. TREAT OTHERS AS YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE TREATED Collaborate, cooperate, and complement each other. You will NOT use inappropriate language in this classroom. Practice good listening skills. When someone is talking, treat him or her respectfully. NEVER make fun of anyone or put anyone down. “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that”-MLK Jr. 3. DO YOUR BEST Learn to the best of your ability and participate in class. If you need extra help outside of class time, it is your responsibility to come see me before or after school or during hour in room 231. You may also e-mail me and set up and appointment. When you are working in a group, make sure you do your part. Cheating will not be tolerated. ANYONE involved will receive a zero. Plagiarism is considered cheating. Copying homework is also considered cheating. “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence therefore is not an act, but a habit” ABSENCES AND MAKE-UP AND LATE WORK A. It is your responsibility to ask for make-up work before or after class or during my conference periods. E-mail is also acceptable. Check the CMS page frequently for calendars. B. You will get one day for every day you miss to complete homework assignments, test included. C. You are allowed one late assignment/quarter for full credit. D. If you are absent, check the make-up folder when you get back. E. If you are gone on the day of the test, you have one day for every day you were absent to make up the test. F. If we have a review day before the test and you are not there, you will still be expected to take your test with the rest of the class. GRADING A. Based on tests, quizzes, homework, labs, projects, and outside reading. B. There will be a 10 point quiz every Wed (or alternate day of the week) on material learned the previous week. This will allow me to see if you are “getting it” C. The semester exam will comprise 15% of your total points for the semester. B. Scale 90-100%=A 80-89%=B 70-79%=C 60-69%=D What does “honors” biology mean? *Points from tests/quizzes will comprise the majority of your grade. *Your GPA is weighted. *You will be able to work collaboratively to solve problems in class. *Topics are covered in more detail and depth-Yeah!
