Melkbos Neighbourhood Watch - Areas of Involvement Orange Light

Melkbos Neighbourhood Watch - Areas of Involvement
Orange Light Patrol
Normal patrols during the week. These are patrols that are done in either Sector 1 or Sector 2. Shift times are from 20h00 – 23h00.
Late Night Patrol
These are very similar to Orange Light Patrols. Shift times are from 23h00 – 03h00 during the week.
Bin Day Patrol
These patrols take place when bins are scheduled to be collected, i.e. Thursdays and Fridays. Shifts for these patrols could start at around 08h00 and
continue until all bins have been serviced. The main aim with these patrols is to identify and report all bin scratchers to SAPS.
Control Room
The main aim for Control Room Duty will be to man the Control Room and be the operations hub for the patrollers on duty. Members would issue the
relevant equipment required by patrollers and monitor them during the shift. CR operators will also liaise closely with SAPS CoC.
Planned Operations
These are aimed at members that have indicated that they are willing to assist in joint operations with SAPS, Provincial Traffic, and Law Enforcement.
Planned Operations will include Vehicle Check Points (VCP’S) and Road Blocks. Due to the nature of the operations, many requests from law enforcement
divisions will come at very short notice.
Response Team
This team consists of members that have indicated a willingness to assist SAPS in situations where specific Schedule 1 offences have occurred, and will also
assist at accident scenes. Any MNHW member is free to offer their services in this area, but additional theoretical and practical training is pre-requisite in
order to adequately prepare members to assist SAPS in an effective and efficient manner. Due to the nature of the operations, many requests from SAPS will
come at very short notice, and often times, at early hours of the morning.
Web Administration
This is an administrative function whereby members can assist with updating and inputting of data through and into the MNHW website. This is a very
important function and also deals with the efficient distribution of information to the MNHW database.
New Members
Members that would like to serve in this area, would be actively connecting with (and finding) new members that are keen to become involved in NHW.
Members would also assist in the administrative function of loading new members, completion of their relevant application documentation, as well as issuing
of ID cards.
Fund Raising
This working group is involved in projects aimed at the raising of funds for MNHW. This also entails securing corporate sponsors for various events, projects
and incentive programs.
Public Relations
This would entail the monitoring and approving of all MNHW communications in all media formats (Web, Media, Social Networks). This working group is also
responsible for promoting the brand of MNHW through various methods and initiatives.
