ENGIE becomes the 20 company to join Paris 2024

Paris, France - 14 June 2017
ENGIE becomes the 20th company to join
Paris 2024
A global player in the energy sector, ENGIE is offering its technical
expertise in support of the bid.
With less than 100 days until the 2024 Host City decision takes place in Lima on 13 September, Paris
2024 has unveiled global energy giant ENGIE, as its latest partner. ENGIE is the 20th company to join
the campaign and the 16th Official Partner.
A major player in energy transition, the ENGIE group has been working with Paris 2024 for several
months, notably on the energy and environmental aspects of its technical file. In addition, part of one
of ENGIE’s research and development sites in Paris, which sits adjacent to the Stade de France and
the proposed Athletes' Village in Seine-Saint-Denis, has been made available by the group for the
construction of the planned Aquatics Centre, the only sporting venue to be built should Paris be
successful in its bid for the 2024 Games.
This partnership marks a new stage in the collaboration, which has now been formalised around the
theme of "Sharing the Energy Revolution" – a concept in line with ENGIE's commitment to energy
transition.
With 153,000 employees worldwide and expertise in electricity, gas and energy services, ENGIE
operates on five continents and in nearly 70 countries. In 2016, the group realised more than 66
billion Euros of turnover and annually invests 1.5 billion Euros in the development and innovation of
solar technologies in support of a low carbon economy.
Sustainability has been a key pillar of the Paris 2024 concept from the outset. In line with the IOC’s
Agenda 2020, Paris 2024 has made it a priority to collaborate with private, public and other key
players such as the Yunus Centre or WWF France to deliver its vision for the most sustainable Games
in history. Paris 2024 is the first bid committee to be awarded ISO 20121 certification and is on track
to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the Games by 55% from that of London 2012 and Rio
2016.
Tony Estanguet, Co-Chair Paris 2024, said:
"We are very pleased to welcome ENGIE as the newest Official Partner of Paris 2024 and to continue
our successful collaboration with the group. With less than 100 days until the vote for the 2024 Host
City, this partnership confirms that our project remains a very attractive prospect. It responds to
issues that go beyond sport and showcases what France has to offer. The arrival of a world leading
company and innovator in clean energy to our side further strengthens our ambition for the most
sustainable Games in the history of the Olympic Movement.”
Isabelle Kocher, CEO of ENGIE, said:
"It is a great pleasure for ENGIE to formalise its partnership with Paris 2024. We share the ambition of
environmental excellence and sustainable development on the Paris-Seine Saint-Denis area. Together
with Paris 2024, we are proud to support an Olympic Games project that respects the objectives of
the Paris Accord."
