SPECTRUM MONITORING TRAINING SPECTRUM MONITORING TRAINING ADVANTAGE Continual technological development causes changes in accepted practices, therefore it is important to stay up to date with the latest innovations. The first step in successful spectrum monitoring starts with a solid foundation in electronic communication techniques. GEW Technologies provides experienced and knowledgeable trainers that deliver an essential background required in the field of spectrum monitoring. COURSE BENEFITS The training course provides operators with the key knowledge and skills that they need to perform their tasks. Further benefits include: Learn to navigate regulatory requirements demands in regulatory markets Cultivate the skills you need to effectively manage and monitor the electromagnetic spectrum Hands-on practical experience in using the direction finding and monitoring systems. Obtain competency certificate on completion of course Learn the fundamentals of EMC testing Grounded in sound theory and engineering principles all courses are presented in a way that keeps participants involved and active in the learning process. The available training courses are presented below: DAY 1 ITU role and structure in relation to monitoring Role of monitoring in the spectrum management process Tasks of a monitoring service Monitoring and the Radio Regulations Practical: Hardware & Systems RADIO SPECTRUM MONITORING AND MEASUREMENT Course participants will learn the concepts and methodologies employed in various spectrum monitoring and direction finding systems as well as the role of spectrum management. 2 DAY 2 ITU-R Reports, Recommendations and Handbooks Typical measurements performed by monitoring Practical: Signals & Interference ITU-R MEASUREMENTS This course is devoted to regulatory issues and measurements according to ITU-R specifications. The participants will be able to understand and apply the measurement techniques required to comply with ITU-R recommendations. DAY 3 Frequency band occupancy measurements Frequency channel occupancy measurements Practical: Control software GEW-SKYMON Integration SKYMON with spectrum management systems SkyManager software functions SKYMANAGER SkyManager is a web based application which together with GEW’s SkyMon products provides a set of integrated tools to simplify the management of the radio spectrum. SkyManager provides its users with a very easy to use interface with functionality such as managing frequency allocation tables, viewing occupancy data and even manage licensing information. DAY 4 Understanding EMC principles EMC hardening measures and good design Practical techniques EMC FUNDAMENTALS To guarantee spectrum monitoring systems operate with as little interference as possible the participants shall learn the fundamentals of EMC testing to insure optimal system operation. This part of the course is presented by MESA Solutions (Pty)Ltd: www.mesasolutions.co.za MEASUREMENT SYSTEM TRAINING OCCUPANCY MEASUREMENTS Course participants will learn the principles of Frequency Band Occupancy (FBO) and Frequency Channel Occupancy (FCO) measurements and its contribution to the spectrum monitoring and spectrum management processes. This is a hands-on practical course that teaches the participant the technical limitations and software operation of DF & Monitoring systems. Practical training is provided for fixed, mobile and semi-mobile installations. If licensing data is available, measured occupancy data can be compared with licensing information for that area. 3 GEW Technologies (Pty) Ltd is a South African system engineering company established in 1968 and now a major supplier of innovative communication intelligence and security products and systems throughout the world.
