Introduction
Programme Structure
This course covers comprehensive knowledge of Light
Rail Operations in the Northwest New Territories and
the management of the interaction between vehicular
and rail traffic. Road safety awareness is also conveyed
throughout this course.
This programme includes 2 hours classroom
lecture and 1 hour site visit to be held at
Tuen Mun Light Rail Depot.
Programme Objectives
Main topics are :
a) Introduction of LR network systems
• To meet the operational aspiration of those who are
interested in Light Rail Operations
• To convey essential road traffic safety awareness
b) The three hierarchies of the
operations and their interactions of:

Upon completion of this course, participants are able to:
• Become more knowledgeable of road safety;
• Obtain an overview of Light Rail routine operations;
• Understand the operational differences between
Light Rail and Heavy Rails;
• Recognise the basic skills for road/rail traffic service
recovery;
• Develop further interest in Light Rail train operations

Mr. Koo is the Light Rail Operations Manager of MTR Corporation Ltd.
(MTRCL), responsible for planning, directing and managing the operations
of Light Rail so as to satisfy passenger needs in terms of safety,
punctuality, reliability, efficiency, system cleanliness, comfort and
responsiveness to passenger enquiries with maximum cost-effectiveness
to achieve service objectives and pledged standards within approved
budgets as well as maximizing operating profits.
He has been working in rail transport for more than 36 years on various
operating duties, with more than 29 years of experience in Light Rail
Operations.
