2013 CHARDONNAY TASTING NOTES Bright lemon zest, green apple and hazelnut aromas rise out of the glass followed by a hint of vanilla cream soda. On the palate, this mediumbodied Chardonnay echoes the aromas with additional flavors of citrus, almond and spice. A creamy texture wraps around the finish. SOIL NOTES The Coombs gravelly loam developed in rivercarried deposits of marine and volcanic sediments. Carbon-rich inputs from native grasses and other organisms have created a dark, carbon-rich topsoil. Rock fragments make up 50-90% of the subsoil. In most agricultural settings, sandy and rocky soils are avoided because they have limited capacity to hold nutrients and water. In wine grape production, these soils are highly prized. Coarse textured soils limit vigor and are ideally suited to manage uniform fruit ripening. SOIL FACTS Organic matter stored in soils represents the largest terrestrial carbon stock on the planet. Careful management practices such as reduced tillage, cover crops, and/or application of compost can maintain or even increase soil carbon stocks and offset greenhouse gas emissions. These practices are commonly applied in viticulture.
