POSITION DESCRIPTION MURRAY DAIRY DIRECTOR
Murray Dairy is seeking applications to fill two Murray Dairy board positions commencing
formally in October 2017. These are skills based appointments with a dairy farmer board
position and a service provider board position available.
A director will always act in the best interest of Murray Dairy and will abide to the Murray
Dairy Code of Conduct and will endeavour to fulfil the responsibilities listed below to the
best of their abilities:

develop policies and strategic direction for research, extension, and industry
development in the region;

identify priorities for research, extension, and industry development projects;

invest industry RD&E funds allocated to the region by the Dairy Australia to address
priority issues;

maximise investment in regional RD&E through strategic and collaborative funding
partnerships;

grow and diversify the research, extension and industry development funding base;

develop, monitor and review the implementation of the Murray Dairy’s strategic and
annual operating plans; and

Ensure sound management to deliver Murray Dairy’s programs across the region.
Other details:
The board meets bi-monthly through the year. One of these meetings also includes a two-day
strategic planning session. Directors will be renumerated for board meetings and will also
receive reimbursement for use of private vehicle. Directors may be asked to be involved in
other committees and steering groups, which they will also be renumerated for.
To be considered for this board position, applicants should demonstrate knowledge of, or
experience in, one or more of the following fields:

Dairy farming and milk production

Dairy industry structures and organisations

Food processing, including manufacturing of dairy products

Business management, finance or law

Research and extension

Marketing and promotion

Natural resource management – particularly water policy and climate change



