Hip Fracture - Western Isles

Recently joined Scottish Hip Fracture Audit
Data has been collected from August 2014
Main issues include:
• Fasting times
• Optimising Fluids
• Geriatric/Cognitive Assessment
• Delayed Discharges
Positives:
 Transfer from A&E to ward within the 4 hour
target
 Time from admission to theatre is within 48
hours: more than 50% of cases are in theatre
within 24 hours
 Analgesia, SEWS assessment, Bloods,
Pressure Areas Assessment all being done on
admission
Areas for improvement: Action Plan
Review fasting
times & oral fluids

Developing local protocol and/or
discuss if other boards have

Geriatric/Cognitive Ax 

alternatives i.e GPs with special

Delayed Discharges 
Very limited units to discharge
to, have discharge liasion nurse
working across whole hospital &
weekly discharge action group
