Assessment Task
Unit 3: Interacting with others
Assessment Tasks
In this unit, students listen to, view and interpret a range of
multimodal texts, including poetry and rhymes, to develop an
understanding of sound and letter knowledge and a range of
language features. Students identify common visual patterns.

They engage in multiple opportunities to learn about language,
literature and literacy within the five contexts of learning focused teaching and learning, play, real-life situations,
investigations and routines and transitions.

Students will create a rhyming verse and recite it to a familiar
audience. They will listen while others present their rhyme and
show knowledge of rhyme by identifying the rhyming words
that they have used.

MATHS
Unit 3
• Using units of measurement - make direct and indirect
comparisons of mass, explain comparisons of mass, sequence
familiar events in time order, sequence the days of the
week, connect days of the week to familiar events
• Number and place value - compare quantities, equalise
quantities, combine small collections, represent addition
situations, identify parts and the whole, partition quantities
flexibly, share collections, identify equal parts of a whole
• Patterns and algebra - identify, copy, continue and describe
growing patterns, describe equal quantities
• Data representations and interpretation - identify questions,
answer yes/no questions, use data displays to answer simple
questions.
Poster/multi-modal presentation Responding to a rhyming story - Students
clearly communicate an opinion about a
familiar story and identify the use of
rhyme within it.
Oral - Create and recite a rhyme Students listen to and demonstrate
knowledge of rhyme through written and
spoken communication.

Week 5-6
Week 910
Assessment Tasks
 A week of events – Time: Students
connect events and days of the week.
Week 4

Observation - Yes or No – Data: Students
ask a yes/no question to collect
information.
Week 2

Guided Inquiry - Exploring equivalence:
Students demonstrate their knowledge,
skills and thinking around data by
answering the Mathematical Inquiry
Question: When do numbers balance?
Week 10

Monitoring - Beads - Number and place
value: Students make, compare and
order small collections
Week 8

Monitoring - Schoolbag – Mass: Students
work in pairs to compare the mass of
their schoolbags.
Week 6
Unit 3: Weather watch
Assessment Tasks
In this unit students will use their senses to observe the
weather and learn that we can record our observations
using symbols. Students explore the daily and seasonal
changes in the local environment and understand that
weather conditions are not the same for everyone. They
are given opportunities to reflect on the impact of these
changes, in particular on clothing, shelter and activities,
through various cultural perspectives. Students also learn
about the impact of daily and seasonal changes on plants
and animals. The unit provides several opportunities for
students to formulate generalisations about the signs and
signals relating to weather and how weather affects
everyday life.
Portfolio - Weather watch - Collection of
work (Yr PY) - Students describe weather
and its effects on living things, and
respond to questions about scientific
observations.
Ongoing
Railway Estate School History
Students learn about the History of Railway Estate School.
No assessment
Week 6
Assessment Tasks
 Assignment/Project - Research: Tell a
story about the past (Yr PY) - Students
create a display (for example picture,
object, photograph) showing how
important family events are
commemorated. They sequence the
events represented and tell a story about
a past event represented in their display.
Ongoing
Assessment Tasks
• Practical - Who wants to play? (Yr PY) Students demonstrate personal and social
skills to include others and describe their
feelings after participating in a range of
active games.
Assessment Tasks
• Interview - Looking out for others Students identify and describe the
different emotions people experience.

HISTORY
Prep students will compare toys ‘then and now’ and make a
display for our Centenary celebrations on Saturday 27th August
and our ‘Night at the Museum’ on Friday 26th August.
Unit 2: Personal and family histories - Tell a story about the
past
In this unit students will investigate the following questions:
• What stories do other people tell about the past?
• How can stories of the past be told and shared?
In this unit, students will identify familiar ways family and
friends commemorate past events that are important to them
and explore the way in which stories of families and the past
can be and have been communicated. They will recognise that
stories can be prompted by photographs, artefacts, books, oral
histories, digital media and museum exhibits that represent
past events and understand that stories can change over time.
They develop an understanding of terms indicating the passing
of time and use the terms to describe past events and annotate
sequenced events.
Unit 3: Who wants to play?
In this unit students will demonstrate personal and social skills
to include others and describe their feelings after participating
in a range of active games.
Unit 3: Looking out for others
In this unit students will identify and describe different
emotions people experience. They will explore and practice
ways to interact with others in a variety of settings.
Week 7-9
This semester, students were encouraged to think and enquire as they investigated the natural world, familiar environments
and different technologies. Their imaginations were developed as they experimented with materials and processes in a
variety of creative ways, and were encouraged to respond to their own and others’ ideas, experiences and artistic works.
