NitroBall Study Guide History: NitroBall was created in summer of 2005 in Sarasota, Florida. And was first known as “inverted volleyball Created by Peter Boucher and became Nitroball at Canton High School in Massachusetts. Object: Score more points than the opposing team by passing, striking, or hitting the ball over the net so the opponents cannot legally return the ball. Number of Players: General guidelines are 46 players per team. Scoring: Uses rally scoring in which a point is awarded each time the ball is served. The first team to score 15 points wins (team must win by 2 points) Serving: Players take turns serving in a clockwise rotation. The server is in right back position and serve must be served underhand. Game Play: Once the ball is served, players can move in any formation on the court. The serving team continues to serve until the opposing team scores a point; the serve is then awarded to that team. A service fault occurs if the ball fails to make it over the net, touches a player of the serving team, lands out of bound, hits a wall before hitting the ground or the ball hits the ceiling. ❏ ❏ ❏ ❏ ❏ The ball MUST bounce off the court before EVERY strike (except the serve) The player may not hit the ball consecutively Kicking or heading the ball is not allowed Blocks are illegal as the ball must hit the ground before every strike The ball can be struck with one hand or two hands A point is scored when: ❏ ❏ ❏ ❏ ❏ ❏ ❏ The ball bounces twice on the opponent’s side The opposing team is unable to return the ball within three hits The opposing team cannot legally return the ball into the court The opposing team hits the ball out of bounds The opposing team commits a fault or foul The ball hits the ceiling The ball hits a player in the air Scooter Activities Safety 1 , always sit on your gluteus maximus (butt) st ❏ ❏ ❏ ❏ ❏ ❏ The major muscle used is the hamstring located in the back of your upper leg You must be on your scooter in order to play In hockey the sticks should be used for moving the puck, not hitting the floor or others In basketball you must dribble if you are moving with the ball Once you stop dribbling you have to pass or shoot, you can’t start dribbling again If a basket is made in the top goal it is worth 2 points, in the bottom goal it’s worth 1 point and if it goes in both goals it’s worth 3 points Hockey: 1) Safety First: The blade of the stick must “never be lifted above your knees.” 2) A one minute “High Sticking Penalty” will be given to any student who lifts their stick above their knees. 3) Three penalties will result in a “Game Misconduct” and ejection from the game. 4) Every student will have the chance to play “Offense and Defense.” 5) “Offense” is when you are trying to score 6) “Defense” is when you are trying to prevent the other team from scoring against you. 7) There are three offensive players: The “Right and Left Wing and Center” 8) At Brawley the Center is also known as the “Rover.” 9) The offensive players must stay in the offensive zone also known as “Center Ice.” 10) There are three defensive players: A “Goalie and Right and Left Defense.” 11) We start the game with a “Face Off”. 12) If a goal is scored, both teams go back to “Center Ice” for another “face off”. 13) If a player score three goals, it’s called a “Hat Trick” 14) If a your team has a penalty, the team is playing “Short Handed” 15) If the other team has a penalty your team has a “Power Play”
