SDOX PREVENTS FISH KILLS WITH DISSOLVED OXYGEN T EN K I LL E R D A M INTRODUCTION Located in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains, the Tenkiller Dam serves as one of Oklahoma’s premiere venues for trout fishing. However, during a drought in the summer of 2011, the trout population significantly declined as a result of high water temperatures, low water levels and a lack of oxygen within the stream. In order to prevent future fish kills, officials at the dam partnered with the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to find a dissolved oxygen solution to save the fish, as well as the fishery. TE CH NO LO G Y SDOX METHOD O W N ER Tenkiller Dam Tenkiller Dam and USACE officials installed BlueInGreen’s dissolution technology in order to provide more dissolved oxygen and ultimately foster a greater fish population. By injecting a sidestream into a pressurized oxygen tank, the SDOX saturated the water. The highly oxygenated sidestream was then returned to Lake Tenkiller, where liquid-to-liquid mixing of the sidestream occurred. Increased Aquaculture Minimal Maintenance Easy Installation Cost Savings RESULTS The rapid diffusion of the saturated stream drastically increased DO levels, providing an ideal habitat for the river’s fish. With the help of the SDOX, the trout population returned to regular seasonal levels following the drought. The dissolved oxygen helped to preserve the trout population at Tenkiller Dam and, in the process, indirectly impacted the area’s fishing economy. “THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE COME TO THE LOWER ILLINOIS RIVER TO TROUT FISH. THIS IS INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT…TO THE LOCAL ECONOMY.” REPRESENTATIVE, OKLAHOMA DEPT. OF WILDLIFE CONSERVATION CONCLUSION With the help of the USACE and BlueInGreen’s SDOX solution, officials and fisherman at Tenkiller Dam saw the trout population rise alongside the dissolved oxygen levels, increasing and maintaining aquatic life for seasons to come.
