WEEK 2 – TEACHER BUILDING A COMPUTER – TIME TO TAKE NOTES
MOTHERBOARD
SATA cables
for hard drive
and DVD drive

Look for little
gold triangle
MATCH TRIANGLES FROM CPU TO SOCKET
INSERT THE CPU INTO THE SOCKET
Did you align the triangle
on the CPU with the
triangle on the socket?
CLOSE THE HINGED SOCKET
Make sure frame goes
under pin here
Make sure arm catches
under holder here
INSTALL FAN (HEAT SINK) ON TOP OF CPU
Align Holes on
motherboard with holes on
fan and push each pin
firmly down into place
Check underneath that it
looks like this:
ATTACH FAN WIRES TO “CPU FAN” CONNECTOR ON
MOTHERBOARD
Look for CPU
fan socket
Plug CPU fan wire
into socket
INSERT RAM – ALIGN “NOTCHES” – ONLY GOES IN 1 WAY !
PLUG IN BIOS SPEAKER (FOR BEEPS AND WARNINGS)
Find connector “JFP2” and plug in
INSTALL POWER SUPPLY INTO CASE
Align Holes
Screw
on Power
into case
Supply with holes on case
RE-POSITION SCREW HOLDERS TO LINE UP WITH MOTHERBOARD

These holders need to be moved because we have
a small motherboard
INSTALL FACE PLATE FROM MOTHERBOARD ONTO CASE

ATTACH MOTHERBOARD TO CASE AND PLATE
Line up with screw
holes on case

in faceplate
ATTACH WIDE CABLE TO MOTHERBOARD
Wide cable with extra connector
Cables connected
CONNECT USB AND AC97 WIRES TO MOTHERBOARD
Attach USB wire to “JUSB1” on motherboard
Attach AC97 wire to “JAUD1” on motherboard
ATTACH FRONT CASE WIRES TO JFP1 (USE DIAGRAM)
Find diagram in motherboard manual, then find “JFP1” on
motherboard and make the proper connections
CONNECT SATA AND POWER CABLES FOR HARD DRIVE
SATA and Power cables plugged into hard drive
SATA Cable to motherboard
SCREW HARD DRIVE ONTO CASE
Line up hard drive with screw holes on case and insert screws
INSTALL DVD PLAYER
Remove front cover of case and insert player into top and screw in
(connect power and SATA cables as you did the hard drive)
REPLACE COVERS AND CONNECT POWER,
KEYBOARD, MOUSE, VIDEO AND NETWORK CABLES
YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE BUILD, NOW
INSTALL OPERATING SYSTEM
Insert USB drive with
Operating system and boot
to it by hitting “F11” while
powering on and choose USB
drive as first boot device
