Purpose of job
To co-ordinate and develop a range of activities to enhance the student experience and in order to increase
student participation levels at Anglia Ruskin University. Encourage, support and assist students in setting up
and joining a diverse range of student led groups. Ensure all activities take place under appropriately riskassessed and safe conditions. The post holder will assist the Union in meeting its objectives.
Job Role:
Support and development of Student Led Groups
 Support and take the lead from the Experience Officer in the development of their schemes,
initiatives and personal objectives relating to Student Opportunities.
 Provide support, information and advice to Student Led Groups to enable them to develop and
improve participation.
 Aid the Experience Officer in promoting new student led groups via a wide range of media.
 In support of the Experience Officer, regularly liaise with student committee members.
 Deliver training to student committee members to equip them with the knowledge and skills
necessary to run their group effectively.
 Encourage student led groups to promote themselves and their contribution to Students’ Union
communications.
 Book facilities in line with student demand and within the agreed budget.
 Ensure the Union’s Articles and Bylaws are adhered to.
 Liaise with Student Services staff to book facilities when required.
 Liaise along with the experience officer with the university on how best to embed enterprise within
student led groups.
 Maintain kit and equipment inventories and ensure their return and security.
 Coordinate, deliver and promote relevant activities, and events with the aim to increase
participation.
 Support the Give it a Go (GIAG) scheme, coordinating, and attending sessions as required.
 Coordinate Meet and Greet for the appropriate campus in conjunction with the Residential Service.
 Coordinate International Orientation for the appropriate campus in conjunction with the International
Office.
 Actively contribute to the organisation of large scale events – such as fresher’s fair.
 Develop and enhance the provision of Raise and Give activity and Student Media.
 Enhance the knowledge and awareness of student employability services and initiatives.
Transport Services
 Arrange appropriate and suitable transport on behalf of students in order to maximise student
participation in line with budgets.
 Be responsible for the service and maintenance of the minibuses. Check and report on the condition
of minibus before and after each use.
 Maintain the minibus driver database, ensuring records are accurate and comply with Data
Protection.
 Coordinate the Supermarket bus service for the appropriate campus.
Administration
 Ensure registered student led groups’ paperwork is fully completed and up to date and stored
appropriately.
 Maintain the office in a professional and tidy manner at all times.
 Be the Union’s first point of contact for students in a friendly, effective and efficient manner and
ensure all interactions provide the highest levels of customer service possible.
 Maintain and update all promotional materials for the Student Opportunities department in line with
the Students’ Union communication strategy.
 Ensure the departments’ pages of the Union’s website are regularly updated.
 Prepare timely reports and statistical analysis when required.
 Maintain, review and update the student led groups handbook and other paperwork.
 Maintain comprehensive membership data in line with Data Protection.
Volunteering
• Ensure volunteers under your supervision are supported and feel empowered.
• Enhance the understanding of the benefits and relevance of volunteering among student led groups.
•
Support student led volunteering ensuring that appropriate training is given and that Union policies
and procedures are followed.
Health & Safety
 Provide health & safety advice and guidance to ensure activities take place under safe conditions.
 Ensure acceptable risk assessments exist for all activity and maintain up to date records.
 Ensure rigorous compliance with health and safety policies.
 Report any faults or health and safety concerns immediately to your line manager.
 Undertake checks to certify that appropriate procedures are in place. Where there is evidence of
inadequate documentation or procedure, report this to the line manager to ensure appropriate
action to safeguard participants.
 Ensure rigorous compliance with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) legislation.

Provide support to the Experience Officers to enhance the role of Portfolio Reps and aid them to
achieving their objectives.
Carry out all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Anglia Ruskin Students’ Union Equal
Opportunities and Inclusion Policy and Student/Staff Protocol.
Actively promote exceptional customer service, taking a proactive approach at all times.
Attend and contribute to team meetings, Union meetings and other meetings as directed.
Carry out any other duties or projects as may be assigned to the post-holder by the Students’ Union
and which are reasonably consistent with the position.
Assist in sourcing external funding streams to develop projects relevant to student experience.
Support the Union’s environmental policy.
The Students’ Union expects all staff to participate in any training programme, meeting or conference
considered relevant to your job. The Students’ Union expects all staff to participate in, and take ownership of,
their Induction, Personal Development Review, Departmental Staff Meetings and be responsible for carrying
out duties with full regard to the rules, policies and procedures and conditions of service contained in the Staff
Handbook, and within Departments of the Students’ Union.
A condition of employment is that all staff are expected to assist in key events throughout the year e.g.,
Fresher’s Fair, Elections, Open Days and any other key events. Staff are expected to portray a positive image,
both internally and externally of the Students’ Union by displaying high standards of service, integrity,
punctuality, politeness and professionalism.
