The aim of the seminar is to equip delegates with a better understanding of legal costs in order to run a more
efficient practice to serve in the best interests of their clients. The concept of legal costs and a general
understanding of legal costs will form the basis followed by practical training in the following.
Litigious costs: Drafting of bills of costs, taxation
and general rules and case law
Taxations and assessment of costs; Cost orders,
expert fees etc
Non-litigious costs: Drafting and criteria to be taken
in account, fee agreements
New developments in technology, statutes, economics
ethics and the influence on legal costs and practice

This year, LEAD has adopted a theme where presenters will also address the ever-changing legal landscape
as it relates to their topic. Solutions to possible upcoming challenges as well as future opportunities for law
firms will be discussed.

Alet Lubbe: Cost Consultant
Alet obtained her LL.B, LL.M and MBA degrees from the University of the Free State (UFS).
Alet is an attorney at Phatshoane Henney Attorneys, Bloemfontein. She specialises in
drafting, taxation and legal advice relating to litigious and non-litigious legal costs. She has
been a lecturer since 1994.
