When can I teach?
• Normally from Year 2 of your PhD Programme.
• First year students are allowed to teach, on the basis of the criteria
set out in the School policy approved in April 2012:
– They have previous experience - which helps address the issue of lack of time for
training to be undertaken - especially if there is a teaching need in semester 1;
and
– There is a shortage of other suitable teachers, i.e. a specific case needs to be
made that there is no one else suitable; and
– An agreed maximum number of hours is set to avoid overload; and
– There is a clear understanding that students should not miss their research
training classes, nor do they have grounds to request extensions to coursework
submission, end of year reviews, etc; and
– They have their supervisor support
