Autumn Term 1
Topic: ‘Brilliant Brazil’
Welcome back to a brand new year. As I am sure you are aware, Upper Key Stage 2 is a crucial phase
for your child and my aim is to make their experience as productive and enjoyable as possible.
In this first half-term, we will be exploring ‘Brilliant Brazil’ in a Geography based topic, learning

In Science children will learn
The ‘brilliant’ topic will also tie in the following subject areas:

In Art we will be studying
the works of Brazilian
artist Romero Britto.
Children will replicate
their favourite Britto
works and use his style to
inspire their own art
pieces.
In Music we will use our topic as stimulation
to create our very own Samba sounds! We
will define the musical elements of Samba
Batucada and learn the names of traditional
Samba instruments. We will carefully listen to
and play the rhythmic patterns of Samba
music before composing and performing our
own Samba piece as a group.
Habitats/Life Cycles and
Classification. Through this
unit, children will be enabled to
describe the differences in the
life cycles of a mammals,
amphibians, insects and birds
and explain the process of
reproduction in some plants
and animals.
HOMEWORK
Homework set is not optional – it must be completed each week, I will be sending home a guidance
sheet in relation to this homework in this half-term. Each piece of homework set needs to be
completed in your homework book. Each week, children should ask an adult to check and sign their
homework book when the work has been completed. Aside from the alternating Maths and English
homework, pupils must remember to practise their spellings and times tables and complete as much
reading as possible (every day is advisable) and record this in their reading record.
Homework will be set on Monday and is to be returned on Friday of the same week. If your child
does not understand a piece of homework then they must see me as soon as possible (asking for
help on the day that your homework is due is not acceptable). If your child requires/ does not have
access to a computer they can always ask me if there will be an appropriate time to complete the
task in school, using the ICT facilities that we have. If homework is not returned, children will have to
stay in during their playtimes to complete it.
