CAB Specific Notes:
Meetings will continue on a quarterly basis.
The next meeting is tentatively planned to take place in February.
For future meetings MiND staff will leave discussion and brainstorming points for the CAB to
discuss. The CAB would then submit their notes to MiND staff.
All future meetings will take place at MiND’s new offices, soon to be determined.
The CAB needs more diversity in all realms: age, gender, background, etc. The CAB needs to
work on expanding.
The Education Game:
The CAB was introduced to MiND’s new educational game for middle school students. The
Education Game (working title) is a new multimedia initiative which seeks to help combat the
dropout crisis in Philadelphia and beyond. The game is designed to remind middle school
students of the important decisions they make every day which impacts their educational
success. We are working with several organizations around the city (Philadelphia Education
Fund, City Year, Big Brothers Big Sisters, ASAP, etc) to create this project.
Formative research may be an option through a university internship program. All students
studying to be teachers must work at schools in the community as interns. They could become
champions of the game.
It’s important to keep the game relevant and not pedantic.
There is a chance the game could align with the National Liberty Museum’s Young Heroes
program-more conversations will be needed.
MiND should check out Poppyn to see how we might be able to connect the game with their
media initiates.
It’s possible that the National Liberty Museum (via Kevin) could help facilitate a training
workshop with teachers, which MiND would proceed to run.
It was suggested MiND watch the video Pushouts, made by young filmmakers who’ve been
pushed out of the system.
It would be wise to make a video of kids playing the game.
MiND Works Expansion
Continue to expand and think of ways to incorporate social media.
Why not make this initiative a whole channel? What does a channel look like in 20 years?
There is much more to be discussed as this initiative continues to expand.
