Rectory Office Hours 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday Father’s Thoughts My Dear Spiritual Sons and Daughters in the Lord, This is the Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord. It is a feast in the life of the Church which we should celebrate with great festivity. There are parts of the Christian world where this Feast is celebrated with greater festivity than Christmas Day itself. That may seem strange to us, but allow me to explain why. Today we mark the arrival of the Magi from the East to Bethlehem. When they arrived they found Mary and the Infant and they poured out their gifts laying them at the feet of the newborn, Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. They worshiped Jesus and told of the sign in the sky which they had followed first to Jerusalem and then to the place where Jesus was. All who heard it were amazed. What a wonderful way to welcome Jesus into the world! Remember that Jesus was laid in a manger, where animals feed because there was no room for them in the inn. Remember that Herod the King decided to kill the child because he did not want there to be another king than him. The Son of God was born into the world, but his own people did not accept him. Still, God’s coming had to be noticed by some. The heavens noticed, the stars noticed, the angels noticed, the shepherds noticed, the sheep and ox and donkey noticed, Mary and Joseph noticed. The rest of the world in such need of the mercy of God seemed to notice what God’s own people failed to notice. Today by celebrating the Epiphany we count ourselves among those who notice that God has come into the world. Not only do we notice it, but we celebrate it with great Joy. And like the Magi who brought him gifts and honored him as a great King, you and I will bring him the gifts of a holy life. We will honor him with deeds of Love for God and for our neighbor. We will lay before him our acts of faith in God, and of hope in his promise for our Salvation. Today we join the Church and rejoice with great joy that God is achieving the great goal of our salvation. Come let us adore Him. Sincerely your spiritual father in Christ, Fr.
