SMALL GROUPS: Students and teachers will go over the words from each line again, using the small visual cards. Students will order the cards, counting Bir, Iki, Uc (there are 6). Each group can also talk about the colors of the pictures, and each picture’s place in the story (Bir, Iki, Uc). MAYBE SKIP THE ABOVE TO SAVE TIME FOR OTHER ACTIVITIES Activity 2: What I Like Teachers will use two puppets to model “Seviyorum” / I Like and “Sevmiyorum” / I Don’t like. Use a THUMBS UP or THUMBS DOWN gesture for each instead of translating to English. Evet/ Hayir can also be modeled. Go around circle and ask which animals they like (can say the animals in English for now). With every answer, ask all students to raise their hands if they also do or don’t like (SEVIYOR they like, SEVMIYOR they don’t’ like). If a student does not produce “I Like,” teacher can say it for them. Students can get a small candy when they take their turn. Transition Still seated in a circle, teachers introduce today’s games but students must agree to practice the Turkish words before we play them. Students do “Stand up sit down” game based on who is wearing a given color. “Whoever is wearing kirmizi stand up! OK, now sit down!” I Spy: Teacher asks if anyone knows how to play I Spy. ONE student can start and model the game. Then each student gets a turn to be the “I spy” leader using colors in Turkish. They can use Evet and Hayir when the other students ask them “Is it this book?” “Is it the table?” etc. If there is time after all students lead, the teacher can also introduce a new color to the game (pembe, mor or turuncu, maybe based on what the kids are wearing?). Activity 5: Charades EVERYONE: Everyone comes back together in the front. Teachers show the animal visuals and review quickly with the students. “Who knows THIS animal?” Student(s) can volunteer the name. Teacher models name. students practice saying it loud, soft, singing,etc . They must act like that animal for their teammates and teammates must guess the animal and say together in Turkish (Once one student knows it they can lead the others in producing it). Have the students play, 1 team then the next team, for all the animals (3 or 4 rounds). 10 minutes Activity 6: What We Saw at the zoo 10 minutes EVERYONE: Teachers will use two puppets to model a 5 minutes conversation about “What they saw at the zoo” – I saw sekiz/8 fil ! They were sooo big! They were eating hay! Oh well I saw 10 giraffes(could be some in English, more “zoo” animals,” because practicing the numbers)!” etc. Ask students after each exchange, “So, how many fil did they see?” Sekiz! Students can be asked to draw (NUMBERS in Turkish) “10 buckets of water,” “7 bails of hay,” “8 bananas,” “6 apples,” and “9 steaks” – They can have a little time (1 minute?) for each and have to draw simple shapes like the examples so they have time. – They must be accurate!!!, the teachers can repeat the numbers / help students count to that number individually if the students need more help.
