PARENT Information Regarding Graduation
Manvel High School’s graduation ceremony will be on Saturday May 27th, 2017 at 3pm at NRG CENTER. One
NRG Park Houston, Texas 77054. Alvin ISD is providing each graduate with one parking pass for family. All
additional parking will be $12-15. Doors to the lobby at NRG Center will open at 1 pm. Doors to the center will
open at 2 pm, 1 hour before the ceremony begins. Please notify your family and all your guests that the
following items are PROHIBITED per NRG: air horns, helium balloons, large signs, outside food or drinks. There will
be a security bag check. Cameras are allowed. Wheelchair seating is at the front of the audience seating
areas.
MANDATORY GRADUATION PRACTICE
Graduation Practice will be on Friday, May 26, 2017 at 7:30 am in the gym. All graduates must attend practice
to walk. If your graduate is not present for practice, they will not walk graduation day. Please turn in all
textbooks and ensure they are not on the fine list before practice. Dress code for practice is casual.
Gentlemen need to be clean shaven for graduation practice and graduation. The one parking pass per family
will be distributed to graduates at practice.
DAY OF GRADUATION FOR GRADUATES
Graduates must be in the cafeteria by 12:00 pm dressed according to the following dress code to be permitted
to participate in the ceremony. Doors to the cafeteria will be open at 11:45am. Graduates will carry in their
cap and gown and put it on once inside. They will be checked for dress code and searched before entering
the cafeteria. All graduates will be given a gallon sized zip lock bag to put anything they bring such as: keys,
phone, wallet, and make-up. No food or water is allowed in NRG. Please do not put it in your zip lock bag. We
will have to ask you to throw it away. No other bags or purses will be allowed. This is a long day and MHS will
provide lunch for all graduates in the cafeteria.
DRESS CODE
Commencement has strict dress code requirements. The purpose for this is to contribute to the dignified
atmosphere our students deserve as they graduate. At Commencement, graduates must wear the designated
cap, gown, and tassel. The tassel must be worn on the left side until the class is certified as graduated.
Gentlemen should wear a solid white dress shirt (with a collar), regular dress tie, solid black or solid dark blue
dress trousers or slacks, regular dark colored dress shoes or boots (no tennis or casual shoes) and be clean
shaven. No piercings for gentlemen. Ladies should wear a dress with a straight skirt or a skirt with a button up
blouse. The color should not show through nor extend below the gown. The dress should not be tight fitting and
should come to at least mid-thigh. The dress should also not be strapless. Ladies may also wear a white button
dress shirt with solid black or blue trousers or slacks. Flat, wedge dress shoes, sandals, or heels are acceptable.
No piercings other than ears. NO JEANS or DENIM ARE PERMITTED! Graduates who come to Commencement
activities improperly attired will be turned away and not allowed to participate unless they can change into
proper attire before the busses depart.
BUSSES
ALL GRADUATES are REQUIRED to ride the bus to NRG Center. No exceptions. They are NOT required to ride the
bus back, however, if they need to ride the bus back to MHS there will be ample room to do so. We will need to
know which graduates will be riding the bus back by graduation practice on Friday May 26th. Please start
thinking about arrangements now.
TIMELINE OF EVENTS
11:45-12:00 pm - Graduates should arrive at the MHS cafeteria.
Grads will be searched, put on gowns and hats, be seated, roll call, eat lunch, and
load buses.
2:00 pm Busses arrive at NRG
3:00 pm - Graduation Ceremony

PARKING INFORMATION
AISD is providing one free parking pass per graduate. All other parking will be $12-$15.
Parking in the Orange Lot (North Fannin Lot) or in the Red Lot (North Kirby Lot) is recommended as they are
nearest NRG Center. All parking lots will be open for Alvin ISD’s Graduation Ceremonies.
