3. Position Purpose
The Youth Ambassador position exists to inspire young people in the community to create a
better future in Yarra Ranges and beyond. The position will provide basic support to Youth
Workers in engaging with young people and assisting key activities including consultation on
matters impacting young people and the broader community, being guest speaker/presenter at
key events; inputting into practice and co-design of programs, projects and events; and
assisting school engagement activities as peers.
The position will engage with young people from across the municipality, working alongside
Youth Workers and local communities to support young people. This position will be required
to work across a variety of projects offered by Council. The position requires after hours and
weekend work.

All positions will be required to undertake roles and activities related to Business Continuity and
Emergency Management in preparation for and during times of crisis.

4. Key Responsibility Areas
Customer Engagement Manager - Supports the delivery of services to young people; supports
partnerships with external youth service providers.





Assist relationships with young people, key youth service and education providers and other
external partners
Gain trust by being honest, keeping commitments, openly exchanging information, and treating
young people with respect
Articulate young people’s needs and educate young people on their capabilities
Assist delivery of programs and projects with young people using a youth participation
framework
Step up as leaders and role models for young people in the community through the modelling
positive behaviours and characteristics.
High-Involvement Team Member - Works cooperatively with others to accomplish group goals.




Communicate clear information and instructions to other team members
Help a team achieve its goals by sharing information, involving team members in decisions,
and demonstrating commitment to the team
Willingness to work collaboratively and share your skills, insights and networks
Be ready to step up and be heard
Group Facilitator/Trainer - Guides a group to acquire skills, make decisions, or complete tasks
by facilitating group communication.



Assist to communicate clear information to young people individually and in a group setting
Use interpersonal skills to build relationships with young people
Learn youth participation framework practices in facilitating groups with young people
Analyst - Draws conclusions and makes recommendations based on qualitative or quantitative
data.



Possess sense of curiosity and enthusiasm for learning and self-reflection
Share information to help Council better understand youth issues, problems, and opportunities
Assist implementing most effective course of action after evaluating options against decision
criteria
Results Driver - Takes the initiative to set and achieve challenging work goals; focuses one’s time

7. Conditions of Employment
Conditions of employment are in accordance with the Yarra Ranges Shire Council Enterprise
Agreement 2016 and the Yarra Ranges Council Corporate Code of Conduct.
