1. Download Adobe Digital Editions
To get started you will need to download the Adobe Digital Editions software to your personal
computer. You can locate the software from Adobe’s website at http://www.adobe.com/products/
digital-editions.html. Select Download Now.
You will then be asked to choose the correct version of the software for your computer.
Follow the directions of the installation prompt boxes that appear on your screen.
*Note: At one point in the installation process you will be asked which parts of the software you
wish to download. Choose to download all parts.
2. Authorize Adobe Digital Editions
Once you have successfully downloaded the Adobe Digital Editions software you will want to
authorize the software by providing your Adobe ID. Open the software, click Help, then click on
Authorize Computer. If you do not already have an Adobe ID, set one up by following the Create an
Adobe ID link.
*Note: Due to eBook licensing restrictions, you will need to remember your Adobe ID if you intend to
download the library book onto multiple devices. The Adobe ID proves that you are the same user
when you are using a different device.
3. Browse and Checkout
To get started go to your library’s homepage www.myscpl.org and select Overdrive eBooks &
Audiobooks from the Catalog and Reference drop down menu.
Now simply select a category or use the search box to find an eBook.
2. Checkout
Once you have selected a title, check that it is available in the EPUB Format. Then simply click the
Borrow Button.

*Note: Books with the Borrow option are immediately available, while books with the Place a
Hold option will add you to the waiting list for the title.
Select St. Charles Parish Library from the drop down menu and you will be prompted to enter
your library card number and your 4 digit PIN number.
*If you have forgotten your PIN you may retrieve it in person at any St Charles Parish Library
branch with a valid photo ID. In order to protect patron privacy PINS will not be given out via
email, over the phone, or to anyone other than the registered patron.
The default checkout period is 7 days. If you would like to extend the checkout to 14 days you
may select Change prior to clicking the Borrow button.
3. Download
At this point you should see the checked out title that is available for Download. Choose the EPUB
format and then Confirm & Download.
If your computer asks where you would like the file downloaded, choose the Adobe Digital Editions
software. Once the download is complete the eBook should appear in your Adobe Digital Editions
Library.
*Note: If the eBook did not appear in your Adobe Digital Editions software you may have to locate
the file and prompt it to download properly. To do this:
1. Locate the file on your computer. It will end in .ACSM and can probably be located in your
downloads folder.
2. Right-click on the file if you are using a Windows computer. For a Mac Control + Click on the file.
3. Select Open With and choose Adobe Digital Editions.
4. Transfer
Once you have downloaded the eBook into Adobe Digital Editions you are ready to transfer it to your
eReader. Simply plug your eReader into the computer using a USB cord.
Open Adobe Digital Editions and simply drag books from your library to the left hand side of the software screen where the name of your device appears.
You should now be able to read your eBook on your eReader!
