Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador annually seeks to honour outstanding
organizations and individuals who have made lasting contributions to the furtherance
of recreation within our province. The awards are presented each year at the
Association’s Annual Award Banquet. To be eligible for any award, nominees must
meet the criteria outlined below.
Nomination & Selection Procedures
Eligibility For Awards
 Individuals or organizations making
significant contributions to the
recreation field
 A minimum of 5 years of service
with an organization, community or
as an individual
 Nominees can be members or nonmembers of Recreation NL
 All submissions must be signed by a
representative of the Municipal
Authority, if applicable
 All nominations, with supporting
data, must be postmarked by Feb.

 A full candidate description must
accompany the nomination form
To enhance the awards submissions,
please include the following:
 Photos/CD/Videos
 Newspaper clippings
 Letters
 Previous Recognition Awards
 Years of dedication
 Press release
 Any contributions the
individual/group has made for
permanent improvement for the
public benefit.
Cy Hoskins Memorial Award of Merit
The Cy Hoskins Memorial Award of Merit is
presented annually to a full time recreation
practitioner. This award recognizes an
individual who has made significant
contributions to the growth and
development of recreation, leisure services
and parks. This contribution will serve to
enhance both the public image of
recreation and the profession for the
benefit of all citizens.
Pitcher Plant Awards
The Pitcher Plant Award is presented
annually to a volunteer and volunteer
organization for their outstanding efforts
and invaluable contributions to the
development of recreation and leisure
services, improving the quality of life for
the citizens of Newfoundland and
Labrador.

Bridging the Gap Award
The Bridging the Gap Award is presented
annually to recognize efforts of volunteers
who have made a significant contribution
to the development of recreation
opportunities for persons with a disability in
an integrated setting.

Award Submission Requirements:
All submissions must contain the following information:






Completed nomination form signed by nominator
2 Letters of Support from a recognized agency or municipality
A full description of candidate (include groups, associations and projects that the Nominee has been involved
in, length of service and awards, recognitions and honours that have been achieved)
We recommend including materials such as testimonials, newspaper clippings, CD, videos and photographs to
help enhance the submission
Submissions must be sent directly to Recreation NL by February 28, 2014
To be eligible for an award, there must be a minimum of 5 years of service
