The Red Dragons Redcliffe Dragon Boat Racing Club Inc. is inviting applications for a
Head Coach, the successful applicant will be appointed for a 12 month term from
July 2017 to July 2018.
They will be responsible for the development and implementation of performance
and developmental paddling programs. The Head Coach will work collaboratively with
the Committee to advance the club.
At Redcliffe we are fortunate and proud to have the Pink Snapdragons, our breast
cancer survivors & supporters as part of the club & the club also accommodates
social paddlers.
The Red Dragons Redcliffe Dragon Boat Racing Club Inc. was established in 2004 and
trains 3 times a week in the local Newport canals and out into Deception Bay.
We attend local, interstate & national regattas competitively and have recently
started travelling to northern NSW regattas & competed in New Zealand. Our Pink
Snapdragons have also competed in regattas locally & overseas.

Head Coach, Redcliffe Dragon Boat Club (1 Position)
Location: Red Dragons Redcliffe Dragon Boat Racing Club Inc.
Talobilla Sports Precinct, Klingner Road, Kippa-Ring, QLD 4019
Duration: 12 Months (From 1st July, 2017) The position will be advertised annually.
Salary: No salary is included in this position, reimbursement of reasonable expenses
associated with the position could be considered by the Redcliffe Management
Committee.
Red Dragons Redcliffe Dragon Boat Racing Club Inc. is a community based social and
sport club and as part of the Dragon Boat fraternity our club works with the local
community in promoting and developing the sport within the region through locally
held corporate regattas, come ‘n’ try days & bbq’s.
Redcliffe Red Dragon’s Vision:
Our aim is to develop and promote a club that offers fun, fitness and a team spirit
that caters for all categories of membership including breast cancer survivors, social
level paddlers and competitive sports paddlers. To have the ability to field strong
competitive teams.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Coaching:
 Submit recommendations to the management committee for the appointment
of required assistant coaches.
 Mentor and work collaboratively with Assistant Coaches to advance their
development.
 Monitor athlete development and adapt the training program according to each
individual athlete’s needs and goals.
 Engage athletes and inspire them to train and perform to the best of their abilities
while understanding their goals and motivation for participating.
 Support athletes in all aspects of development including nutrition, mental training,
time management, proper preparation and physical training.
 Attend all regattas where possible.
 At all times adhere to safety protocols and reinforce these protocols with coaching
staff and athletes.
 Seek opportunities for professional growth and development.
 In a timely manner communicate training and regatta schedules to athletes.
Administration:
Liaise with the Team Manager on the logistics & registrations for regattas.
Management and Club Development:
 Manage the scheduling & content of all paddling programs and ensure their
Delivery in accordance with Redcliffe Red Dragons philosophies and principles.
 Work collaboratively with the Redcliffe Red Dragons Management Committee &
assistant coaches to determine annual competition and training schedules and
ensure logistics are in place.
 Report to the Redcliffe Red Dragons Management Committee. Co-Ordinate and
communicate information/reports to the Management Committee (eg. Monitoring
and reporting on participation levels & events).
 Assist with the planning and running of club regattas and corporate events.
 Work with the management committee to maintain relationships and ensure
cohesiveness within club programming.
 Maintain external relationships with Dragon Boat Queensland (DBQ) and Australian
Dragon Boat Federation (AusDBF) to ensure the Club’s best interests and provide
opportunities for the club and it’s members.
 Manage and mentor coaching staff and provide opportunities for professional
development.
 Make recommendations regarding purchase and maintenance of equipment and
boats.
 Manage development and implementation of emergency procedures and
protocols.
Experience, Qualifications and Skills:












Successful completion of Level 1 coaching certificate.
Successful completion of First Aid Course.
Approved Blue Card Holder
Experience in coaching the sport of dragon boating at a competitive
level.
Good knowledge of the dragon boat technique and the ability to
Communicate this knowledge in an effective manner.
General knowledge of exercise physiology and scientific training principles.
Highly organised, creative, positive, and solution-oriented in all situations.
Strong Leadership, time management and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with and utilise the skills of Assistant Coaches
To maximise outcomes in club programs.
Knowledge of International and Australian Rules and Regulations of racing.
Interest in Club development and willingness to work with members at all
levels.
