Arthur Ruppin’s Childhood
Arthur Ruppin was born in Germany to a wealthy family, but sadly lost there
wealth. Therefore, he stopped going to school at the age of 15 to help his
family.

Becoming an Aliyah
During 1907, Arthur was sent by the W.Z.O. (World Zionist Organization) to
‫ ארץ ישראל‬to study the jews that had lived there. Then, that year, he
became an Aliyah.
The Mission
On Behalf of the W.Z.O., Arthur opened an office called ‘‫ ארץ ישראל‬office’.
Arthur’s mission was to turn the Zionism dream into practical Zionism, so that
jews were able to settle in Israel successfully.
Success!
He was able to find specific places for the Jews to settle, and helped
secure loans so he could by the land, and build settlements, (Kibbutzim
and cities).

What Was Arthur Also Known For?
Arthur Ruppin was also very much known for his academic research. He
became a famous psychologist, and created a psychologist department
at the Hebrew University, which is located in Jerusalem, and was the first
university in ‫ארץ ישראל‬.
Jewish Agency
After this happened, Arthur became the head of the Jewish Agency, and
helped many Jews coming from Germany in the 1930’s during the 5th
Aliyah.
Streets and Cities
There are streets in Arthur’s hometown in Germany named after him. There
are also many streets and cities in Israel named after him.
When Did He Die, and Where Was He
Buried?
Arthur died during 1943, only 5 years before Israel became it’s own country.
He is buried in Kibbutz Degania.
