The system is a tensile structure consisting of vertical supports connected to each other by wires and cables
and kept taut through anchorages (propellers or cement plates) set into the ground. Net is laid on the top
of the structure so to complete plants covering. Net is a little more wider compared to the rows, so to have
an inclined position, that makes it elastic when it hails. Net foils are connected to each other through
plastic plates but gaps are left in between, letting hail stone to roll down and not resting on the structure.
Its distinguishing feature is that net does not rest entirely on the structure, but instead sits just on the top
wire, while transversal cable (which is essential to keep the structure stable) running on top. This allows it
to slide down under the weight of heavy hail, but defending in any case plant under it. Net is fixed all along
the wire to avoid eventual lateral shifting due to hail weight, which would consequently uncover the
orchard. Structure has to be properly anchored along the entire perimeter, at least two meters from the
pile.

Installation steps
Anti-hail installation cost can be reduced installing materials in separate steps, so to split investment in
more than one year. Each installation step is completely independent and can be carried out also in
different years, without affecting plant stability.
Installation steps are the following:
1. Orchard structure (piles, anchorages and plant support)
2. Covering (upper part, net and its accessories
Usually first and second step are carried out on the same stage and covering follows the year after.
First step is around 40% on entire investment and second step is more expensive, with around 60% of total
amount.
