A. Students entering Honors Biology are expected to read the text overview, introductory Chapter 1 –
1.1 – 1.11 Themes in the Study of Biology, Evolution, the Core of Theme of Biology, The Process of
Science, and Biology and Everyday Life; and Chapter 2 – The Chemical Basis of Life – ALL (should be
a review). (FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO PREVIEW OUR FIRST TOPIC OR GET AHEAD, THE

overview of the course, and then both a review of essential concepts covered in Chemistry as they apply

reading appears abbreviated, this will require reflection and pacing oneself over a period of time.
These summer topics will be included on the first test of the new academic year in September. Students
are always expected to retain any vocabulary read or used in class along the way, and use the
appropriate vocabulary in Harkness.
