Norma Roland led us in prayer. Thirteen members and 14 guests enjoyed a delicious Christmas dinner made by Ann Meinzer and served by her wonderful helpers! We were served ham balls, twice-baked potatoes, veggies and a strawberry and blueberry parfait. We played bingo and had several winners, then the ladies read some Christmas readings and we sang Christmas songs a cappella. We all received a painted wooden snowman as a gift. Our love offering will go towards the Hurricane Sandy Relief Effort. Respectfully submitted by Kathy Niedfeldt Life Quotes January 6 “Maybe you made a New Year’s resolution to read your Bible more. Follow through with that resolution. Make church attendance a priority. Get to Bible class. Take advantage of the opportunities for Christian education that you have for your children … Tell a friend or relative about the great things that God has done for them. Support the work of your congregation with your time, treasures, and talents, so that others might be taught as you January 13 “Our futures are unknown to us (thankfully), but they are not unknown to God. He is all-knowing; He is sovereign. God, through Christ, experienced the supreme suffering in human form when He took it upon Himself to accept the sin of us all through His death on the cross. Because He knows what it’s like to suffer, He can empathize with us in our suffering. Not only can He empathize with us, but God promises to one day relieve us of our suffering.” Beth Schaible, former Lutherans For Life national board member – A “Life Quote” from Lutherans For Life · www.lutheransforlife.org January 20 “A woman has the right to choose what she does with her body, but the baby is not her body. Where’s the lawyer for the baby? How can the dream survive if we murder the children?” Alveda King, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., speaking with Notre Dame High School students – A “Life Quote” from Lutherans For Life · www.lutheransforlife.org January 27 “The Father of Life says, ‘Choose Life. Your worth is not determined by what you can no longer do, but rather by how much you are worth in My sight. I have sent My Son for you.’ … The worth of life to the true God of Life is greater than can be measured by human standards and is seen distinctly on a cross and in an empty tomb. Each of us is reminded by the Word of the true God of Life, ‘My times are in your hand’ (Psalm 31:15a).” Pastor Paul Sajban, The Lutheran Church of Our Savior, Windom, Minnesota – A “Life Quote” from Lutherans For Life · www.lutheransforlife.org Used Sheets or Drapes are needed for LWR The Sew ‘n Sew ladies would really appreciate your donation of any used sheets or drapes. Please help. Stewardship Minute Youth are Ready to Serve The National Lutheran Youth Gathering will be this coming summer in July. The gathering provides opportunities for our young people to socialize, serve, and study God’s Word with thousands of their peers who share their faith. Often in our small congregations, adults are seen as keeping the church moving along. At this gathering, they will see people their own age excited about using their time and talents to serve their Lord and Savior. The youth involved in the upcoming National Youth Gathering would like to offer their services to you as a way of raising funds for the trip. If you need someone to wash your car, rake your yard, shovel your snow, or even organize your garage, please call Angie Embretson at 402-245-2149 and set up a time convenient to you. We will accept an offering that you feel is fair and it will go to the group as a whole. JANUARY 2013 “Stewardship is how we manage what God has given us in this life.” We are each meant to consider whatever we have as gifts from God and to be good managers of those gifts. We each have bodies, brains and talents and time to use all of those gifts to glorify God. Good stewardship involves good management of the totality of God’s gifts to us. An elderly pastor tells the story of a parishioner in a church he was serving. The man took giving and serving the Lord seriously. If anyone asked him why he was so dedicated to using his talents, time, and money for the Lord’s work, he would smile and answer by saying: “The Lord has allowed me to have time, talent, energy, and a good income. If I don’t use my assets in the right way, God may stick out his foot and trip me. Then I might lose it all.” He meant his answer to be funny, of course. But it does show that the fellow knew where his time, talent, and financial resources ultimately came from. They came from our loving Creator whose blessings are showered daily upon each of us. Remember that Jesus said to his followers: “You are the light of the world.” He continued by saying “Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5: 3-16) Should we not let our lights shine to glorify our loving Creator? Prayer: Almighty and loving God, every good gift we have has come from you. Keep us mindful of your care for us and your desire for us to use our minds, bodies, energy and resources to bring light and truth to this often suffering world. Through Christ our Lord, we pray.
