Hunger Doesn’t Take a Break
Summer is upon us and the heat is on in the Loaves &
Fishes kitchen! Our volunteers have been busy cooking
and serving meals this summer. Hunger does not take
a break and neither do we! Each meal requires the
dedication of 23 volunteers. Not only have our volunteers
been busy this summer, they have been busy this year.
The Loaves & Fishes volunteers put in 4,880 hours of
service to provide 10,001 meals to those in need. We
also welcomed 85 new volunteers to our team!
My first six months at Loaves & Fishes has been a busy

Volunteer Paul Wolters Retires
For the past thirteen years Paul Wolters has selflessly given of himself in
service to Loaves & Fishes of the Fox Valley, Inc. On the second and fourth
Monday of each month Paul could be found setting up the cafeteria for our
evening meal—always with a smile on his face and willing to help in anyway
needed. In the early years our set-up volunteers had to wrap one plastic
knife and one plastic fork in a napkin for each meal guest. This was a bit time
consuming and tedious work. Paul suggested that we purchase wrapped
utensils from McDonalds-which were pre-wrapped—and donated by Paul
for many months. When we decided to eliminate the plastic ware Paul
researched the cost of purchasing our current silverware, found us a good
price and even delivered the goods to Trinity. What a guy! And let’s not forget the wonderful napkin dispenser

L&F “MOM & DAUGHTER“ DUO
Mom (Carrie) and Daughter (Ella) have teamed up to share their talents with the guests at the Loaves & Fishes Community
Meal on Fridays.
Ella is an active 5th grader who enjoys playing soccer, entertaining little children, playing the piano and just hanging out with
friends. Her dream is to become an elementary school teacher. Her Mom, Carrie, enjoys spending time with family and friends.
Outdoor activities and carting the girls around for school activities, sports and lessons keeps her very active as well.
The fifth grader heard about the Loaves & Fishes program from her school classmate.
Ella’s class had just finished a service project of “helping others” which she really enjoyed
and then was introduced to volunteering opportunities at Loaves & Fishes. So Mom and
Daughter teamed up this past February to “help others” at the L&F Community Meal.
Carrie and Ella recalled a particular meal when they had first started volunteering. Both
were serving at the counter. A guest mentioned that he had walked 8 miles to get to and
return from work plus walking to this food site. This was his first time attending the L&F meal
and he was so thankful not only for the food, but also that the LORD blessed him with good
strong feet and legs to get him where he needed to be. He thanked us numerous times
for the food. Carrie said “It was very humbling because all we did was put the food on his
plate.”
Mom and Daughter both agree that people are blessed with so much in the Fox Valley and “we all should give back to the LORD
and His community”. Carrie says we never know when we may have the tables turned on our situation and will need a place like
Loaves & Fishes to assist our families. Ella says “It is very fun and you meet many wonderful people”—a win for everyone!
