Groups rotate three times each day so all children receive teaching and learning time with all three teachers. Monday: Handwriting without Tears: No Handwriting this week. Ms. Cheryl’s Group: “There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie” Table Activity: The children will play a fall game by matching striped, dotted, and solid leafs to the correct pattern leaf. Theme Book: We will read the whole book. Emergent Reading: We will talk about what we see in the book. What did the old lady eat? How many things did she eat? What happened to her at the end of the book? Activity: We will be making puffy paint by using equal parts of flour, salt, and water. We will add orange food coloring and pumpkin pie spice to create a scent-sory experience. Those who can cut will cut a triangle shape out of brown paper. For those who are still learning, a triangle will be precut for them. They will then paint the triangle with the orange puffy paint. We will let this dry and finish our pumpkin pies on Tuesday. Plan and Do: Each child will tell the teacher where they plan to play either on the playground or in the classroom. Domain: I.D.3. Physical Development Component- Fine Motor Development Standard-Shows beginning control of writing by using various drawing and art tools with increasing coordination. Early Literacy: Ms. Jen’s Group -- “ Five Funny Turkeys” Table Activity: We will look at a fall picture and the children will talk about what they see in the picture. Leaves are on the ground, the dog is looking at a pile of leaves. What is in the leaves? What other things do they see? Theme Book: We will read the whole book and the children will answer questions about the book. Emergent Reading: The children will look for things in the books that the turkeys are wearing or doing. How many turkeys are left in each page? What happens at the end of the book? Activity: We will use corn cobs to create a really cool looking picture. They will roll their corn cobs in brown, red, orange, and yellow paint to create a really neat and one-of-a-kind picture. Plan and Do: Each child will tell the teacher where they plan to play either on the playground or in the classroom. Skill Seekers Ms. Melissa’s Group – “Pete The Cat Thanksgiving” Table Activity: The children will play a game, “Catch a Leaf,” that teaches beginning sounds of the letters “b” and “l.” They will pick a card from a pile then they will look at the picture, and decide if it starts with the b or the l sound. The will then place their card on the correct square that matches the letter sound. Theme Book: We will read the whole book. Emergent Reading: What was Pete’s job in the school play? What did he learn by being in the play? What was he thankful for? Activity: Today, the children will be making a turkey from a hand print shape. They will be given a pile of fruit loops to use on their turkeys. They will first place all of the same colors together to practice categorizing. They will then glue the fruit loops onto the fingers however they choose with the different colors. They will finish their turkeys by adding eyes, a beak and a waddle. Ms. Cheryl's Group: “There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie” Theme Book: We will read the whole book and answer questions from the teacher. Emergent Reading: What was the children‘s favorite part of the book? Can they eat some of these items? What would happen to us if we could eat all of that stuff? Activity: We will finish our Thanksgiving plates today, by gluing our puffy pies onto a colored plate, and then we will glue on a fork and add a cotton ball to the top of the pie for our “dollop” of whipped cream. Plan and Do: Each child will tell the teacher where they plan to play either on the playground or in the classroom. Early Literacy: Ms. Jen’s Group -- “Five Funny Turkeys” Theme Book: The children will listen and talk about the whole book. Emergent Reading: The children will answer questions about the book or they may some questions of their own for the teacher to answer. Activity: We will be making Indian necklaces by stringing fruit loops onto a piece of yarn, in the color of their choosing. They can make a pattern, use one color, or create any design that they choose. Plan and Do: Each child will tell the teacher where they plan to play either on the playground or in the classroom. Each child will have to clip on that number of clothespins to create the “tail” for the turkey Theme Book: We will hear the whole book. Emergent Reading: Why was Pete afraid to be in the play? How did it all turn out for him? Was he happy or sad from being in the school play? Activity: We will make “turkey tracks” using a raw potato that has been pre-cut with a turkey foot on it like a stencil. They will dip the potato into different colors of red, orange, brown, and yellow. Plan and Do: Each child will tell the teacher where they plan to play either on the playground or in the classroom Wednesday: Pajama Day, Cooking, and Fun Day We will be making turkeys using an Oreo cookie, candy corn, pretzels, chocolate marshmallows (or small chocolate candy), frosting gel, and candy eyes.
