new business enterprises came from England
SAMUEL SLATER
Samuel slater, a cotton spinner’s apprentice
He left England and came to the U.S.
He built the first textile mill in the U.S.
ABOUT THE FACTORY
The factory had 72 spindles powered by nine
children pushing foot treadles, soon replaced by
water power
He hired children between 7&12 years old and
paid a low wage
