2017 Adult Dodgeball Rules
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
12 players are allowed on roster.
Players must be 15 or older.
This is a coed league, so at least one female needs to be on each team’s
roster.
Games will consist of (6) Six 7” Foam Dodgeballs
Regular season games will be played in Best of 3 Series.
Maximum number of players allowed to play at once is 10 with a minimum of
5.
There are NO Forfeits, a team lacking players will play down players. (This
means it could be a 10 vs 5 so make sure your team shows up!)
There are NO substitutions during a game, unless for an injury; guy for guy,
girl for girl.
You may only play on ONE team.
LIVE BALL RULES
•
•
•
•
•
A thrown ball is live until it hits the wall, ceiling and/or floor.
A live ball can get multiple people out on one throw before hitting the wall,
ceiling and/or floor.
A live ball is dead as soon as the player holding the live ball(s) gets out.
A live ball can be caught off a player(s) and the thrower is Out (See “Catching
the Ball”).
A live ball can be caught off a block and the thrower is Out (See “Catching the
Ball”).
GETTING HIT
•
•
•
•
•
Head shots are discouraged but they are legal throws and the thrower will be
safe and the player the live ball hit will be Out.
Clothing, Accessories, Hair, etc… are an extension of the player and will be
considered Out if hit.
The refs can’t see every hit on every person, so please use your best
judgement on getting out if you believe you or another teammate got hit.
A kicked ball doesn’t constitute a throw, the ball is dead.
If a live ball hits a player headed out of the game, on accident, the ball is
dead and can’t get active players out. If an Out player interferes, they will be
penalized (see “Penalties” below).

GETTING HIT
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
If a thrown ball is caught by the opposing team, the thrower is Out.
No players return to the game after a catch is made.
If a live ball hits a player(s) and is caught before hitting the wall, ceiling
and/or floor, then the thrower is out and the player(s) the live ball hit are all
safe.
If a live ball is blocked by a player and is caught before hitting the wall,
ceiling and/or floor, then the thrower is Out.
If a thrown ball is trapped, either against the wall or ground, both the thrower
and the “catcher” are safe; if a player “traps” the ball against another player,
then the thrower is Out.
If a live ball hits a player headed out of the game, on accident, the ball is
dead and can’t be caught for an out. If an Out player interferes, they will be
penalized (see “Penalties” below).
If a player is going up for a catch and subsequently gets hit with another
thrown ball but still can make the catch, then the catcher will still be out but
the person who threw the caught ball will be out, and the thrower of the
second ball will be safe (unless they threw the first caught ball also).
BLOCKING THE BALL
•
•
•
•
•
A player may use another ball to block incoming throws.
The blocking player must maintain complete control of the blocking ball
through the complete action of blocking a thrown ball or will be Out.
If the blocking ball falls, moves, etc… and the blocking player regains control
of the blocked ball before it becomes dead, they will still be considered Out.
The hand holding the block ball is part of the ball, if a thrown ball hits the top
of the hand holding the ball below the wrist then the blocker is Safe.
If a player blocks a live ball into themselves or another player(s), they will be
out unless the blocked ball is caught before hitting the wall, ceiling and/or
floor.
OUT OF BOUNDS
•
Any part of a player that touches and/or crosses the center line and touches
the opposing team’s floor will be Out, there is no margin of error.
• A player may reach across the center line to retrieve a stranded ball but no
body part (hand, foot, knee, etc…) can touch on the opposing side or the
player will be Out.
• No “Suicide” Plays, any balls thrown while in the air crossing over the Center
Line are dead balls and the thrower is Out.

SPORTSMANSHIP
•
•
•
•
Remember that the purpose of this league is for people to have fun and meet
new people. We are all adults, so please act like it.
Trash talking, yelling at people or the refs, making fun of people, making fun
of how people play or other types of poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated.
Poor behavior may result in a player being ejected from a game by the head
ref. The refs will first give a warning to a player demonstrating
unsportsmanlike conduct. If the conduct continues, the offender will be made
to sit out a round. If the conduct continues after that, the offender will be
ejected from the game.
If a person continually causes problems, they will be removed from the
league and possibly banned from all future Rec Social Sports leagues and
activities.
If someone feels other people are exhibiting poor sportsmanship, they should report
it to their team captain, one of the refs, or the league commissioner
