Island Crisis Care Society has been in operation since 1989 and serves people who are in crisis, homeless or at-risk of homelessness in our community. They do this by providing shelter and care, food and essentials, all supported by a dedicated group of volunteers and staff through the operation of their women’s shelter, as well as 5 other homes. ICCS programs provide crisis stabilization, transitional housing, supportive recovery, and rental subsidies throughout the Nanaimo and Oceanside/Parksville region. WORDS TO REMEMBER What we have at the center of our attention is what has us. King David is both a positive and negative example of this principle. Whatever he gave his attention to would either “make him” or “break him”. ~ Martin De Haan ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS Join Leslie Szeler for “IGNITE YOUR PASSION FOR GOD” - Adult Sunday School starting Feb. 7 at 9 am in the Meeting Room. Contact Leslie (250-758-4901) to reserve a book ($12). SAFETY FIRST! Contact Colleen Entner for more information For everyone’s safety please be sure to use the EXIT driveway when leaving the church. Last fall the EFC worked with the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops to develop a Declaration on Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide that was signed by many evangelical denominational leaders as well other faith leaders (Catholic, Orthodox, Jewish and Muslim). We are inviting other concerned Canadians to sign the Declaration. Thus far over 3,200 have signed. Our goal is to have 10,000 sign by February 6, the anniversary of the Supreme Court decision that opened the door to physician-assisted suicide. As the issue moves to Parliament Hill, we want to use the Declaration publically and in meetings with Parliamentarians as a statement of support for the protection of life, the promotion of palliative care and the defense of conscience. Please consider adding your name and encouraging others to sign the Declaration at www.euthanasiadeclaration.ca. Thank you for your prayerful attention to this important initiative. (v. 1) It’s maintained by our treatment of others. (vv. 2-3) It’s based on our oneness in Christ. (vv. 4-6) We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord . . . and we pray that all unity may one day be restored, and they'll know we are Christians by our love. Jason Upton
