ATTENDANCE
Missing school for any amount of time
can have a negative impact on your
scholars ’s learning, achievement and
grades. When your child must be
absent, be sure to let us know the
reason for the absences. For
absences, we ask for a written note
from your doctor if it is related to an
illness. Our attendance goal to meet
the state requirement is 95%. Our
attendance rate for the month of
December was 93%! We are close to
achieving our goal! Let’s achieve 95%
for the month of January! We had a
total of 148 scholars that had perfect
attendance for the month of
December!
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
I can’t believe that we are halfway through the 16-17 school year! We are making
great strides with student achievement. We want to keep that momentum going
and are counting on you -our parents- to partner with us. In order for your scholar
to get all that they can out of their education, they need to be in the classroom
each day learning.
When it comes to your scholar’s education, every day matters. Many studies
suggest that students with less than eight absences on average grew academically
23% more in reading and 19% more in math than students with eight or more
absences.
EIGHT ABSENCES- LESS THAN ONE DAY A MONTH OUT OF THE CLASSROOM –
CAN NEGATIVELY IMPACT A CHILD’S ACADEMIC PROGRESS.
At Imagine Madison Avenue School of Arts, we want to see your child achieve. This
is why it is so important to us that they are present each day. Please see the
following tips for maximizing your child’s opportunity to achieve at high levels and
ways to keep your scholar in class.
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
Establish a reasonable bedtime that provides for 8 hours of sleep.
Establish a back up plan for getting your child to school in case
something comes up.
Only keep your child home when they are really sick (fever, vomiting, or
contagious illness).
In the event of an absence, work with your child’s teacher to get make
up work.
Schedule doctor appointments during school breaks, or after regular
school hours when necessary.
Plan family vacations around holidays and other time off from school so
your child does not miss learning.
