What is a low carbon champion

Meet the challenge
Become a low carbon champion in 2010
What is a low carbon champion?
Low carbon champions cut their own carbon footprint and support other people to cut theirs. A low carbon champion

lives or works in Winchester district

can influence and encourage others to talk about climate change and the benefits of reducing their carbon footprint

is keen to allocate some time to this for at least a year
A low carbon champion doesn't need to be an expert. Our course provides a basic knowledge of climate change, and what
people and organisations can do about it.
A low carbon champion is an agent of change.
Being a low carbon champion
Once you’ve completed the course, we hope you will feel well equipped to champion low carbon living. Our aim is to cut the
carbon footprint of Winchester district by 20% by 2012 and a by third by 2015. Low carbon champions can choose to work
individually, in pairs or small groups. Whether you encourage neighbours, friends, your employer, school or church, local
organisations or others to reduce their carbon footprint and move to low carbon living, you can get back up and support from
WinACC.
Our course
The course, led by our experienced team, consists of an introductory session and four further sessions on Thursday evenings
from 19.15 to 21.15 at the United Church, Jewry St, Winchester SO23 8RZ.
Introductory session Thursday 25 Feb
This provides an overview of the course as a whole and gives you the opportunity to:

find out about the role of low carbon champion

discuss what matters to you about climate change, and your own aims and aspirations

identify the experience you would bring to the role, along with the skills you will need

learn about the support that WinACC offers.
Course: Thursdays 4, 11, 18 and 25 March
By the end of the course, the new low carbon champions will:

understand enough about climate change and its causes to feel able to engage with other people

know what people can do to reduce carbon emissions and what they themselves plan to do

understand how people change their behaviour

understand what is expected of low carbon champions and the practical ways that WinACC will support them.
