Summer Research Guidelines Underclassmen

Summer Research Guidelines
Underclassmen
Communication:
You must post a detailed weekly summary beginning the week of July 2nd on edmodo.com (see
below). This is important to keep us informed of your progress on your project and to make sure
necessary paperwork is completed. . If you have any questions feel free to e-mail Dr. Truglio
([email protected]) or Dr. Hersh ([email protected]).
Over the summer:
 Join the “Summer-Research-2012” edmodo.com group. Password: kz7xdn
 Keep very careful records of your procedures and data.
 Collect and read good background materials.
 Post weekly updates on edmodo.com beginning July 2nd.
 Complete and send to us all required ISEF paperwork before beginning experimentation.
Unless you do not know anything about the project you will be doing, the paperwork
must be started before the end of the school year but additional forms may be needed and
must be filled out before you begin experimentation. All ISEF paperwork must be
turned in to us by July 13th.
 Give the ISEF mentor form to your mentor at the end of the summer. The ISEF mentor
forms must be turned in to Dr. Truglio or Dr. Hersh by September 14th.
Competition eligibility:
 Team projects for students of all grades are eligible for both Siemens and LISEF.
 Individual projects are restricted to seniors only for Siemens and INTEL STS.
 A project must be classified as either a team or individual project up front. A team project
may not be split into two individual projects under any circumstances.
Competition Guidelines:
ISEF
 A research paper and a great deal of paperwork are required.
 ISEF forms and rules can be obtained at:
http://www.societyforscience.org/isef/document/
 In order to fulfill the ISEF rules we must have your research proposal and
appropriate forms before you begin experimentation for your project. You will not
be allowed to participate in ISEF unless the paperwork is filled out at an appropriate
time. If you know your project topic, you must turn in a brief description of the
project and forms 1, 1A, and 1B before the end of the school year. A draft of your
detailed research plan must be posted on edmodo to us as soon as you know what your
project involves. It should be updated as you revise your experimental plan. It must have
a detailed description of your methodology - see the Research Plan attachment for the
format and required information. We will review your proposal and tell you what
additional forms you need. A final copy of the proposal along with the appropriate forms
signed by you, your parents, and your mentor, must then be scanned and posted on
edmodo.

**Be sure to keep your originals.
